You may recognize the Pegoretti name from some of the wild paint schemes we’ve shown over the years, but that’s not this Pegoretti’s brand. Brother Gianni Pegoretti used to work with his sibling, but branched off to launch Deanima. His brand offers modern, full-custom carbon and steel road and gravel bikes, full of unique touches. And, of course, amazing paint…

NAHBS 2018 Pegoretti Deanima Unblended custom italian carbon road bike

The Deanima Unblended is their top-shelf carbon road bike with rim brakes. It uses a custom carbon tubeset made of T800s HM3k tubes joined with HM3K carbon pre-preg.

It uses a tapered head tube with inset headset.

Oversized front triangle tubes meet thinner rear sections to tune the ride.

Framesets go for $3,990 and can be made to fit either a 31.6 or 27.2 seatpost, your choice. And the price includes a choice of 18 stock colors and several Art Series paint schemes…which are anything but standard. Example: The paint on the bike above is a no-cost Art Series upgrade option, letting you pick the three colors used for base and stripes. Full custom, unique paint will cost extra.

DEANIMA AMG01 CARBON DISC ROAD BIKE

Taking top reins for modernity on the road is the new AMG01. It uses the same carbon materials with reworked tubesets to accommodate disc brakes.

Sleek internal cable routing is mirrored on the downtube. Note the sharp masking and watercolor-like paint scheme underneath.

Oversized BB shell holds the PF86 bottom bracket perfectly still under hard sprints.

The AMG01 gets thru axles and a 27.2mm seatpost diameter as stock, but geometry is full custom here, too. Retail is $4,400 for the frameset, which is very reasonable if you look around. That’s one of the selling points they pushed hard when we spoke with them, they’re a bargain compared to most other custom carbon or steel bikes available, and you’re getting something from an established builder that’s handmade in Italy. For North America, talk to Blacksmith Cycle to order.

DEANIMA SOUL CARBON GRAVEL BIKE

Proving they’re not stuck in the past, Deanima’s Soul gravel bike is fully modern with flat mount disc brakes, thru axles, and clearance for 700×42 or 650×47 tires.

The Soul uses the same carbon blend as the others and a 27.2 seatpost. Retail is $4,150.

DEANIMA DeFER MODERN STEEL ROAD BIKE

The DeFer is their take on a steel road racing bike, and it’s also available in a gravel-oriented disc brake version. Before you tune out because steel’s not your thing, take a look at what they’ve done to modernize it…

A 44mm headtube makes it tapered fork compatible, but they kept the popular threaded BSA bottom bracket.

Underneath is a removable cable guide, which not only looks clean on its own, but means fewer holes or weld/braze spots on the tube. Remove it and you have a pluggable port for electronic shift wires to run internally. The other benefit is that they’re threaded, making fine adjustments possible while riding, something you often lose with full internal setups these days.

This bike was entered into the custom Silca integration contest, hence the paint-matched frame pump (and a floor pump that you can just barely see in the image below).

Small details like the indent and paint inside the dropouts are things only the owner may ever notice, but we love them!

Another thing that sets this bike apart are the proprietary chainstays they use. Note the difference between the common round steel chainstay on the left, and their boxy stay on the right. Which one do you think is stiffer?

The DeFer uses a TIG welded Deda Zero custom tubeset with stainless steel dropouts and is designed for a 27.2 post. Retail is $3,450. Ready to kill some time? Check out their custom paint configurator here.

I saw the bikes at the show and thought they were nice. But for the life of me I couldn’t read the logo, and had no idea what the name was. At first I thought it might be some evolution of the Dean frames, but my eyes went haywire trying to read it.

I saw the bikes at the show – The DeFer steel gravel bike was my favorite gravel bike for the whole show. I’m saving my pennies for one.
