Urge continues to develop some of the best value mountain bike helmets on the market, especially for aggressive trail riding. Using the tech of their premium Down-O-Matic DH helmet, Urge has reworked construction to cut costs almost in half for their new BombAir full face.

In fact, the new BombAir actually shares the same EPS liner, offering the same CE-certified crash protection, and even the same outer mold as the more expensive Down-O-Matic RR. But the new BombAir gets a slightly different look, dropping some of the external vents and additional trim elements in exchange for the much lower pricetag.
It starts out in the same mold, and even uses a similar 80% fiberglass & 20% linen fiber construction, but the new BombAir gets a more simplified shell design. Interestingly, Urge manages to still keep weight in check, with a medium lid staying under that golden 1kg mark.
The BombAir’s shell drops some of the side vents, but maintains a large mesh vent in the chin bar and the two main top vents, all of which channel air across the rider’s head to the pair of rear exhaust ports.
Tech details
Urge claims a weight of just 975g for a medium of the new BombAir with the new cheaper construction. The helmet includes an adjustable visor and removable, washable pads.
Curiously that seems to be about 75g lighter than the premium Down-O-Matic RR, making decreased ventilation the only tradeoff. At 170€, the new BombAir will be available direct from Urge from March 15 in a wide five size range (XS-XL) and in four color versions.
