The new PNW Pine 105mm travel 27.2 dropper seatpost replaces their 80mm Ranier and gets a more refined design. The head is updated with a simple and secure two-bolt design, making tilt adjustments easier. Down below, the chassis is borrowed from their more robust Cascade post, but resized to handle the narrower 27.2mm diameter.

It gets fixed cable routing to the top of the chassis, no stealth routing option at this time. For that, they’re still offering the IR (internal routing) Ranier while supplies last. It’s cable actuated with infinite adjust (meaning, no preset drop increments…stop it anywhere you want). Total length is 390mm for the Pine, and 400mm for the Rainier. Minimum insertion is 120mm, max is 205mm. Retail is $274.99.

PNW remote dropper seatpost lever for drop bar road gravel and cyclocross bikes

Being 27.2, the post is designed to mountain bike standards but ready for use on your gravel, cyclocross, monstercross or “other” road bike. It comes with their standard lever, but this $74.99 CX Drop Bar remote lets you slide it into place and hide the cable under the tape thanks to a 45º noodle. They say they’ve tested it with most other mechanical dropper posts, too, so you could try it with other brands’ posts as well.

Very similar to the KS Lev 27.2 (which I own). I noticed a few improvements: the price is $100 less; easier to service (an assumption based on the Rainier manual); less moving parts thanks to the actuator being at the top of the unit rather than having to be routed down to the bottom — my Lev’s internal cord and lever at the base have barely survived 18 months of use; and I think it might be more durable (although you can buy replacement parts for the KS Lev).

They have reversed the cable (a standard shifter cable) so you secure it at the lever. On one hand I like this since fiddling with the Lev’s at the post is a bit of a pain. But it means that you can’t use Lev’s really nice Southpaw remote and others like it.

The Lev allows you to orient the post-cable interface as you prefer. This post seems to point it off at an angle (where I prefer it pointed directly back).

Neither seems to allow you to adjust the pressure (Lev’s non 27.2 posts do).

The big question (for me) is will it survive very cold temperatures? My Lev has failed every winter — but kudos to KS they have fixed it under warranty.

You can often flip the cable orientation around with the use of a separate set screw barrel end.

If I get what you mean: I don’t think there is enough space in the post mounting box for it and the claw, and if you install it at the lever you wouldn’t be able to adjust the cable tension (with a Southpaw type mechanism assuming it even fits).

Looks pretty much like a rebranded transzx JD-YSP19 that you can get for less than $160.

Every single PNW dropper post is just a TranzX with their logo slapped on and a mutli-hundred dollar markup.

I got this to replace a Lev that failed after a month of winter riding (and didn’t work half the time). The Pine is better in the cold, faster return. Other than it being a little heavier and the lever is crap (so is the stock Lev’s), this is great. I am using a wolf tooth lever that is a world better than the one it comes with. Slightly more drop, better performance, and way more reliable so far. I’m going to sell the Lev when I get it back from warranty repair. I’m a PNW fan!

I have found the Lev 27.2’s return speed to be dependent on the specific manufacture of the mast-cartridge. I’m on my 3rd: the OEM was a bit slower than I liked; the first repaired one was perfect (for 8 months); the one I just got back is slower than the original (even with the seat post clamp at its minimum tightness).

Can you double check that total length? PNW website says 406mm, not 305mm as reported here. Thanks!

If I had more money I’d love to try this on a CX bike to see if it would make hopping barriers easier!
