Pinarello stepping their MOST cockpit components up to the Team Sky big league

Like most bike makers Pinarello has had their own house brand MOST components for several years. But with the announcement of the new mostly black Dogma F10s that Team Sky will be racing on the UCI World Tour this season comes news that for the first time the team will race Most cockpit components, and a new Talon Aero integrated bar & stem.

Most Talon Aero 1K Di2 integrated bar & stem

Until now Team Sky had been racing with Shimano-made PRO cockpits. We already saw the bar snuck onto the Froome replica bikes last summer. But it seems in their ninth year as bike sponsor, Pinarello has stepped up the spec-level of their in-house Most components to adorn the new Dogma F10 for pro racing too.

So now Most are ready for the big time of pro racing, starting with their latest carbon Talon Aero integrated bar & stem combo. Most calls it their most advanced road handlebar, combing aerodynamic optimization developed on the Jaguar standalone bars with the stem integration from the standard Talon bar.

The new Talon Aero 1K Di2 uses a stepped aero bar top design to give a clean look, and smooth transition from tape to the bar when wrapped. But that also limits your bar wrapping options.

Tech details

The Talon Aero stem clamps to the 1.125″ standard top of most straight or tapered steerers with a carbon-friendly two bolt internal expander, much like in many internal seatpost clamps.

The bar features a compact 125/80mm drop & reach, and a subtly ergo bend. The standard bar features gloss black graphics, plus a bit of gray & red over the matte 1K carbon weave. Team Sky get their own team blue & white decal version, which consumers should be able to buy later in the year. Both feature integrated bar end plugs and R9150 compatible fully-internal Di2 routing. They also have under stem mounting for the optional 42g iTalon out-front style mount for a Garmin and/or GoPro compatible accessories. The bars come in three widths 42, 44 & 46cm (which we suspect are outside-to-outside measurements) and in effective stem lengths from 80-140cm depending on width. Most claims a weight of 420g, but doesn’t specify which size was weighed.

In addition to the new Most Talon Aero bar, Team Sky will also use the iTalon GPS mount and Most’s 2mm thick dual-material EVA+PU Ultragrip bar tape. Pinarello says they plan to continue to step up the performance level of their Most components, and will use the Team Sky partnership to develop more for their house brand.

This is a silly question but where in the world did they come up with “Most” for their component spec name? Is there some sort of back story or maybe an acronym I’m not being snarky it seems like a weird name for a component brand. Cool bars btw.

Nice to see 140/46 options for us big boys. Might be time for an upgrade. Is the computer mount Wahoo-compatible?

On the other side they missed the bar for small rider and this who enjoy narrow bar for a mare aero position.

Depends how they measure the bars – I suspect it might be outside to outside, as you’re right, no 40 cm is short sighted. I’m 6’5” and ride a narrow bar.

I also think a 140cm is the sign of a too small frame.

Did Enve/Mavic manufacture the bars, or did Pinarello steal the tape retention plug design from them? I have an Enve bar, and love how I don’t need to plug the ends. More companies should use those rubber thingys.

Well, technically they would’ve stolen it from Tessostar/Velox who was making bar end plugs like that back in the 60’s and 70’s.

They are made in Asia. But that bar was designed by Jaguar Automobiles. They made the prototypes that Sky used. But they are now made in Asia.

The handlebar ends aren’t like Enve at all. They’re actually just solid carbon, with a little lip for a smooth tape transition. You just trim the tape to flush fit the end of the bar.

For the record, these bars are measured out-to-out. So a 42cm is 38 center-to-center at the tops, 40 c-2-c at the drops, or 42 out-to-out.
