When I went to Rome about 10 years ago we landed at Fiumicino airport, and the Appian Way runs past just a few hundred metres away. Took a quick detour there in our hire car (wife in the front seat, mother in law in the back) only to find out that part was a transvestite prostitution beat…not quite the sort of sightseeing we had in mind!
