Road tubeless is awesome, but it’s also been held back by the lack of a true standard. Just like the company hoped to do back in 1999 with mountain bikes, Mavic recently introduced UST Road in hopes of standardizing the road tubeless market. While still relying on a bit of sealant for puncture sealing, the UST Road standard promises easier tire installation and removal, improved safety in the case of a flat with a tire that will stay on the rim, all while keeping the advantages of tubeless with lower rolling resistance, increased grip, and decreased weight.

Applying to a huge selection of existing Mavic wheels, UST Road will be also be available on wheels that are brand new to the line up like the new Comete Pro Carbon SL UST. Sold as a UST Wheel Tire System, the full carbon clincher uses a 64mm deep NACA airfoil profile with a 19mm internal width (26mm at the brake track). The rim brake only carbon rims use iTgMax carbon technology which is supposedly better at withstanding higher temperatures and offering better braking in all conditions. The 18/20 spoke wheels include straight pull steel spokes with aluminum nipples, QRM+ and QRM Auto hubs with optional XD-R freehub body, and have a claimed weight of 720/880g. The wheels are shipped with Yksion Pro UST 700c x 25mm tires which are 260g each. All in, you’re looking at $1,799.90 for the complete set.

Nice wheels. Might they consider stocking parts for their proprietary wheels more than 2 years after production??

I wouldn’t hold my breath they’re still making their freehubs out of Swiss cheese.

Mavic makes really great clothing. Its durable too. They should build their hubs with their chamois material.
