GoPro has just pulled back the curtain on their newest action cam, the Hero6 Black with tech upgrades all around. After just announcing a delivery date for their new Fusion 360° VR camera, the new Hero camera focuses mostly on internal electronics improvements in what GoPro says doubles the performance over the last generation Hero. A standout feature of the new camera isn’t even exclusive to the newest Hero6, but is a mobile app-based function called QuikStories that had a soft launch earlier this summer.

GoPro knows that pretty much anyone who gets an action cam records way more footage than will ever see the light of day. Making interesting video is all about pulling out the highlights, but even that consumes huge amounts of time. So QuikStories aims to automate the process, making sharing easier (and automatic).
QuikStories links your GoPro Hero6 to your phone to automatically transfer footage directly from camera to phone over WiFi, with the GoPro app on iOS or Android devices making the highlight edit for you.

As for the Hero6 itself, it upgrades video capture to 4K 60fps, doubling the performance over the previous generation. It’ll even do 2.7k video at 120fps or 1080p HD at 240fps making it capable of some really impressive slo-mo capture.
GoPro had to slide a new & more powerful GP1 processor into the Hero body to make it handle that much more high-definition footage. The new processor delivers the best GoPro imaging yet, also getting an updated sensor. The Hero6 also gets dramatically improved dynamic range for better & more vivid shooting in low light conditions, even incorporating a special night photo shooting mode.
The new camera also has even better automatic software image stabilization, that GoPro claims is almost on par with the mechanical stabilization of their Karma drone. It also has 3x faster WiFi connectivity to speed up those automatic video transfers to your phone & the GoPro app.
The camera itself retains the same size and form factor as the 5, making it difficult to otherwise tell them apart besides the small number on the side of the lens. But that also means that accessories remain the same, which is always a plus.
The Hero6 Black carries over voice control, as well as the same 2″ touch screen display on the back that makes it easy to set up your shots, play back & trim captured footage, and manage all the settings easily. That touch screen also give the Hero6 a new touch to zoom feature that lets you digitally zoom in when capturing video.
It also retains the built-in GPS & accelerometers, and waterproof housing-free design that you can dive with to 10m/33′, and the same single button on/off+record functionality.
The Hero6 Black also gets an upgrade price, ratcheting up to $500/570€ making it the most expensive yet, and it is available now worldwide. You can also now get the Karma drone bundled with the new Hero6 camera for $1200/1500€.
