Kogel’s found new treasure with limited edition gold anodized parts, the latest of which are these oversized pulley wheels for SRAM Eagle 12-speed X-Horizon rear derailleurs. Originally only available in black, these pulleys share the same 12-tooth upper and 14-tooth lower design and get their ceramic bearings that just keep spinning. Retail is $149.99, a $20 premium for the gold finish, and they’re available now in limited quantities.

They use a narrow-wide design on both wheels for better chain management. The wheels are machined from aluminum. They use Kogel’s cyclocross/MTB seals to stay cleaner, but are also serviceable to keep them running smooth. Only 30 sets are available from this first run.

Prior to this limited edition launch, they introduced small batches of gold anodized bottom brackets for most modern standards. Some versions still have a few in stock, others might be up for pre-order. Shown above is their PFBB30 solution for 24mm Shimano spindles that requires no adapters, with a standard threaded BSA model below it.

Just STOP already. Is there really a market for this nonsense?

Totally, and in reality, these prices are actually more than decent compared to SRAM bearings and pulleys if you’re due for pulley replacement.

Chase you should get some treatment. Pretty hostile sir. If there wasn’t a market there wouldn’t be product. Have a good day 😉

@ Kyle-hostile? Not really. Jaded? Absolutely.
As an Eagle user. I find absolutely nothing of value or practical in this kind of product. Derailleur pulleys are bathed in chain lube and grit their entire life. A ceramic bearing of high grade is completely lost in these conditions. No amount of seals will fix that. Aluminum is a poor choice for pulleys as the noise and wear is excessive compared to the silent operation of the OEM plastic pulleys. Not to mention these cost 2X what the new OEM pulleys cost and those come with a new cage and hardware as well.
Truth does not always agree with propaganda.

If you’re bathing your pulleys in lube, you’re doing it wrong.

Worth their weight in gold! Price Kogel out compared to Sram then look at longevity. Kogel easily doubles the life and increases shifting performance. Kogel’s grown so much in the last few years when Ard was just traveling around introducing shops with his product when no one had heard about it. I’d say their is most definitely a market for this stuff.

This is a cool product idea and a nice finishing touch for a 12k bike that will inevitably be under some 48 year old grey haired mountain fred. Not my sort of thing, and we all know that you’re not loosing races because the bearings in your stock jockey wheels are not ceramic but heck it looks cool and the market for this thing isn’t starving and missing utility bill payments as they try to make it pro from cat 1.

What’s wrong with being 48 years old and having grey hair? You’ll be that guy one day, too.
