Elite Direto direct drive cycling trainer with power meter and pedaling analysis app

The new Elite Direto direct-drive indoor cycling trainer comes with a new optical torque sensor to measure your power output with +/-2.5% accuracy, certified using a slew of new Lorenz machines at their factory. Add in a slope mimicry of up to 14%, and they’re saying it’s the best featured trainer for under a grand…

Using German-made Lorenz measurement machines, they can guarantee readings accuracy within 0.005% 0.05%. Each trainer will be put through the testing machine, calibrated, then shipped with a trackable number so they can identify any issues down the road should they arise.

Resistance runs up to 1400 watts at 40km/h equivalent, giving you plenty to push against for the hardest intervals. And wide fold-out legs keep stable for those sprints.

It transmits your ride data via ANT+ FE-C and Bluetooth Smart 4.0. Those formats are widely supported and will be compatible with TrainerRoad, Sufferfest and Zwift. Elite My-E indoor cycling trainer app and software program

Their My-E training program comes with it and includes a 12-month subscription. It’s available for desktop (Windows, OS X) and mobile (Android, iOS), and the mobile version has an in-app purchase that unlocks pedal stroke analysis so you can see where in your pedaling circles you’re actually pedaling circles, and where you’re pedaling squares.

Available in September for $899, compatible with standard QR and 142×12 thru axles. Cassette not included.

If power output accuracy is within 2.5% then how can they guarantee readings accuracy withing.005% or is power output not a reading? Perhaps they mean that power accuracy can be measured with plus or minus 2.5% accuracy and “readings” are measured within .005% precision?

If I am reading it correctly, I think they are listing the 0.005% accuracy relative to the Lorenz testing machine. It is useful to see that the testing machine is held to a very high level of accuracy.

The 2.5% for the Direto is what it is based on the accuracy of the device. They are just using a super accurate tool (the Lorenz) to verify that the Direto is actual in it’s specified range before shipping each trainer.

Hi Andy, exactly. The Lorezn we use meausures power accuracy within 0.05% of precision. Direto guarantees a power output precison within 2.5%.

Something worth noting is that it’s got an unthreaded axle, so shouldn’t chew through carbon dropouts like other direct mount trainers. Was getting a bit fed up of having to tell customers that they’d mashed their frame!
Will probably still see the lock nuts fretting at the inner faces under heavier riders though, especially as they’re chasing those watts on the screen..

New product announcements prior to the official season is a good idea, despite your objection. It’s good for people that want to plan and are looking for something to add to their equipment stable.

I really like the look and specs on this new trainer. It is poised to crush the Tacx Flux with the same price, but better max resistance and slope specs. If Elite get it out on time and with no problems *cough, Flux belt tossing, cough*, it should do very well.

Additionally, the ability to collapse it easily completely trashes the fixed stature of the Flux. I can’t believe Tacx made it a fixed footprint. I almost expect them to offer a 2.0 version with a collapsible version because of the oversight.

You can never be too careful when riding indoors! In fact, he should probably get some blinky lights too.

You mean he might try to ride through a narrow door and crash into the wall and then blame others?
