Kona remote e-mountain bike trail builder concept

With an allotment of only 500 Bosch e-bike systems to go around all of the ideas they have for 2018, the Kona Remote looks to be the most interesting. Word is they’ve been testing it up near their home trails on the North Shore to help get more tools (and probably beverages) out where they’re needed without having to resort to gas powered vehicles.

The bike will get a full complement of rack and accessory mounts, but won’t come with the sweet custom chainsaw hauling setup you see here.

No word on whether the Remote will officially make it into the 2018 catalog, but the guys at their booth were pretty stoked on it, so we’d chances are good it’ll at least see limited production.

“No word on whether the Remote will officially make it into the 2018 catalog…”

Let’s hope not. Unless they are releasing a separate motorbike catalog for 2018.

You can’t be serious. Have you ever completed a trail work day? How about hauling trail building tools on your bike into the backcountry to build new trails? I’m guessing you have not.

This as an excellent application for the use of e-mtn bikes. Enough with the “it’s a moped, motorbike, motorcycle” nonsense. Bikes like these will help make it easier for those who actually volunteer to build more trail so people like you can then ride them.

Right on. 100% agree. I just test rode one of these in Pemberton, BC. It’s amazing.

Not completely relevant to this exact bike…But I can’t help but feel that E-bikes are going to create a whole “sub culture” for mountain biking/cycling. I’m sure in a lot of circles e-bikes would be frowned upon on group rides, and obviously won’t be allowed at most races and events. So what do the E-bike riders do? Create their own group rides? Have e-bike races? I can’t imagine seasoned riders (at least the ones I know) just taking up e-biking, even as a supplement to their normal riding. Will the majority of people buying e-bikes be completely new to cycling? So they won’t know any of the nuances of the sport including trail etiquette.

There is so much more to cycling than “group rides” and competition.

What will these out-of-shape e-bikers do when they are 30 miles into the woods and their batteries die?

and the bike weight a ton… i dont understand the logic. i get it when you can do the full ride on a battery with power to spare but thats not possible for bike packing

im in shape and pedaling a dead ebike plus all the gear uphill… i dont think i can physically do it. this is 25 to 30kg of bike with 10kg of gear so up to 40kg.
compare to.. 10-12kg bike so up to 22kg. huge huge huge difference…

Remote – implies you can go to remote locations with this bike, off course that is downright dangerous.
Work bike would be much better denomination.

I’ve been mountain biking /Enduro ing /cx racing / Road racing. Long distance bike packing which I still do. I’ve tried ebike and find it a fantastic concept for further cycling with injuries & age catching up. Never tried a chair lift. Hear a lot of riders use to get to the top of a ride as also shuttle rides.
The Remote will be in my shed soon 🙂
