Shape My Grip adds ergonomic, vibration damping “handles” to any drop handlebar

Ever wish that flat area on the top of your handlebar was angled just a little differently? That was the pain point that led Lee Diallo to invent the Shape My Grip handlebar pads. He liked the flat top of some bars, but by the time he got them in a comfortable position, the drops weren’t angled correctly for him. So, he figured an add-on perch that would work on any round bar would let the rider customize the position and angle and solve the problem for all…

Shape My Grip comes in two versions, the BarTop (above) for the upper part of your handlebar, and the Curve (below) for the drops. They’re made of a flexible material that helps reduce road vibration and provides a little extra cushioning under the bar tape. They recommend (basically require) the use of a stretchable bar tape, but should work on any round handlebar. Finger indents also give you a better grip on the bar and should maintain their shaping even under the bar tape. The BarTop has a doublewide cable channel to slip over your shift and brake housing.

The Curve provides a better grip when in the drops but doesn’t have any backside to cushion your palm. Even so, they say test riders found they could stay in the drops longer and more comfortably with them. Just make sure the protrusion doesn’t affect full brake lever movement.

Retail is $24.95 per set (so, $49.90 for both BarTop and Curve), and they come with double stick tape to secure them to your bar. Installation is simple, with a quick video on their website to walk you through it. We’re thinking the BarTop ones could even be used on some really wide mountain bike handlebars to create an alternate hand position for marathon racers, etc.

One size fits all hands?
This would be better without the finger indents.

Or… Just double wrap your bars were necessary.

Do you guys think our ancestors carved little finger grooves into their spears?

Some spear-type throwing objects have two rings for which your fingers can help add force to the throw.

If you do any rudimentary analysis on throwing, you realize it’s a combination of the rotation of several different links that allows for high speeds. If you can get your lower body, upper body, arm, forearm, wrist, and fingers to work together you can throw with some immensely high speeds. I perfected a similar technique for frisbee golfing, and it’s pretty fun to see how far some of those discs can fly when you get it all perfect.

This is the least ergonomic grip shape ever devised… over and over and over… by people who know nothing about ergonomics, but sure think they do.

I’ve had ergonomics classes and this is the 1st lesson of designing handles.

It’s a track bike so not so strange as you might think. Many pro riders track bikes end up looking like that.

At least its not another smart light or bell! I can see a use for them.

I call BS on the claim that wrapping the outside of your drops enables longer/comfier drop sessions….placebo effect perhaps? I pad the inside of my drops w/ yoga mat foam, and it makes a huge difference. I put almost no pressure on the outside, except for the occasional out-of-saddle sprint, where I do not care about comfort. To each their own though.

Accusations aside, I love the bar-top grips. Very nicely done.

You’d think they’d do a better job of wrapping around the hood and applying finishing tape for their press photos.
C’mon people.

I just by cheap silicon foam grips and cut them to suit my hands. You get about 1m on ebay for $2 and you don’t have to deal with the ridges.

This is silly. It’s heavy, won’t necessarily suit everyone’s grip and seems a little pointless. If so much additional grip is needed just use Sugru for a very personalized fit!
