Guerrilla Gravity Megatrail SS, side

While it’s always a blast to plow a long travel bike through rough rocky descents, sometimes it’s just as fun to see how much more you can do with less. For those who prefer to pump and jump their way down the trails, Colorado’s Guerrilla Gravity has trimmed down their Megatrail all-mountain bike into something a little more playful than plush.

Like all of Guerrilla Gravity’s suspension bikes, the new SS model offers two travel settings- in this case the Trail Mode gives you 135mm and Gravity Mode kicks it up to 145mm. Between those numbers is a bike that should be a snappy jumper, but could also tackle just about any trail short of a chunky double black diamond.

Guerrilla Gravity is all about customization, so there are several components specs to choose from or the option to go full custom on your build…

Guerrilla Gravity Megatrail SS, rear axle

The Megatrail SS frame is made of aluminum, and it’s designed and fabricated in-house in Denver, Colorado. The bike runs 27.5” wheels, and for the ‘mid-fat’ crowd the rear end can accommodate tires up to 2.8” wide. The rear end is BOOST spaced with a 148x12mm Syntace universal axle and derailleur hanger.

Guerilla Gravity stuck with a threaded 73mm BB shell to avoid potential creaks, a 1x specific design, and an ISCG05 mount so you can run a chain guide. The Megatrail SS frames use long-lasting Enduro Maxx bearings, and weigh in at 6.6lbs (size medium, no shock).

Guerrilla Gravity Megatrail SS, linkage

The company’s own Freedom Linkage is based on the horst-link design, but tuned to maximize tunability: The linkage itself provides an ideal starting platform that offers pedalling support, sensitivity and ramps up to resist bottoming out. The linkage is also designed with both air and coil shocks in mind, leaving the door open for riders to fine-tune the bike with whatever style/brand they prefer.

Guerrilla Gravity Megatrail SS, frame storage kit

Following the on-bike storage trend, Guerilla Gravity’s optional Frame Storage kit straps a spare tube and levers to the SS’s seatmast in front of the BB shell. They also squeezed in bottle cage mounts atop the down tube.

Guerrilla Gravity Megatrail SS, on trail

The Megatrail SS is available in three different builds (see website for full specs and geo). The Ride 2 starts out at $3195 USD, the Ride 1 sells for $4195, and the top-end Race goes for $5195. A frameset is also available for $2195, which you can then build upon as desired. It should be noted that these prices are for a raw finished frame- there are lots of colors to choose from, but paint is going to cost you extra.

The Megatrail SS comes in S/M/L sizes, and is available online.

Now why does a long travel full suspension bike have a name SS? I was expecting to see some trick swing arms that allow for single speed use like the Lenz Milk frame.

I agree completely. Lets not take an already established nomenclature and change it to mean something new and completely different.

Intense made a 6.6 SS in 2007…

It’s called that way because it’s a standard Megatrail which has been Short-Shocked. The shorter stroke limits the total travel.

Not only does that look cool but the pricing is really reasonable for USA made frame.

Went here today on my way to the airport. As a mechanical engineer and bike dork I was very impressed. Their welder used to work at Titus when they still made USA frames. I’ve been beating the crap out of my aluminum El Guapo since 2009. If they keep him on board I will update my fleet with their products. Very great group and badass products with all the quality you could hope for. The PedalHead just passed up the RSD Sergeant for my next bike

Funny, when I talked to GG on the phone about this bike, the guy told me it meant Short Stroke. In reference to the fact that it is a Megatrail frame with a shorter shock, as mentioned above.
