In addition to all of the new products on the mountain bike side, Mavic is bringing a truckload of new gear to the pavement for 2017 as well. Thanks to a rapidly expanding apparel category and all of the new standards and categories for both road and mountain bikes, the Mavic catalog is booming.
New additions to the line up include wheels like the Cosmic Pro Carbon disc, or what Mavic calls the best value in a carbon disc brake specific wheel-tire system. Built around the 45mm NACA carbon profile, the rims feature a 25mm external width, and a 17mm internal width. That 17mm internal width is making its way across the Mavic line with more of the road rims going to wider widths.
Convertible to 12 or 15mm front and 12 x 142 or QR rear, the wheels are offered in 6 bolt or Centerlock rotor compatibility and will also work with XD freehubs. Sold as a wheel tire set with the Yksion Pro tires, the 1770g wheels and 210g 700x25c tires retail for $1,399.
In a sweeping change throughout the line, many of the wheels get wider and lighter at the same time. Wheels like the Ksyrium Pro Exalith which moves to a 21mm external, 17mm internal rim, but keeps the weight to 1475g per set. The same could be said for the Cosmic Pro Carbon SL, though with a 25mm external width and 17mm internal for a 1450g total weight. At this point most of the wheels are offered in both disc and rim brake models with hub options to fit the majority of bikes.
On the apparel side, Mavic is getting into a complete new world of colors and styles just like we’ve seen for mountain biking. That includes the new Echappee women’s line which blends Mavic pedigree, women’s fits, and unique styling. The Echappee Pro helmet W uses the same technology as the men’s helmets with Mavic’s Live Fit memory foam padding, 37.5 fabric lined padding, and an Ergo Hold SL retention system. Available in a subdued black or the more colorful teal, the 245g helmet will sell for $139.95.
The Echappee Elite W shoe combines a unique mix of laces and an Ergo Ratchet buckle with a nylon/fiber glass sole for a shoe that weighs 230g and sells for just under $100.
For men (or women who don’t want a women’s helmet), the Cosmic Ultimate II offers a lighter package at 210 grams. In spite of the feathery weight, it still includes the Live Fit SL memory foam and 37.5 fabric lined padding at $239.95. The Cosmic Pro keeps the features which made it popular, but reduces the price point to $169.95.
On the men’s side, the biggest shoe updates come in the form of the Cosmic Pro which uses dual Mavic Ergo Dial retention and a microfiber upper for a light, comfortable fit at $269.95. Further down the food chain, the Cosmic Elites forgo the second Ergo Dial for two Ergo straps at $159.95.
Elsewhere in the line, Mavic is making a push for visibility with their Vision line which includes high viz materials and reflective prints. Offered on the Cosmic Vision Pro Helmet, Vision H2O vest, arm, knee, and leg warmers, and more, the Vision pieces also include protection from the elements with DWR coatings, wind resistant panels, and other tweaks to get you through those tough training days.
