Pacenti’s two new rims are next generation versions of two of their more popular hoops.

The Brevet is a replacement for the PL23 and addresses some manufacturing issues they had with a prior vendor and also improve it’s looks. Performance wise, it’s the same width on the outside but gets a full millimeter wider inside, and they deepened the center well to aid tire installation. The original was very flat on the top, but the Brevet gets a nice rounded profile by reducing the flat sides from about 13mm down to about 10mm. Then, they added a bright anodization rather than full polish, so it still has a luster, just not crazy bright. It’s aimed at the more traditional commuter and city bikes, where these qualities should fit right in. Retail is $98.

For racier road and cyclocross pursuits, there’s the new Forza…

2017 Pacenti Forza front and rear specific rim profiles

The Forza replaces the SL23 and gets different front and rear profiles. The front is symmetric, the rear is asymmetric, giving both the proper bracing angles for rim brake wheels. And these are rim brake specific, but Pacenti says eventually they’ll have a disc brake version, too.

Compared to the latest version of the SL23, they’re actually 0.5mm narrower on the outside, but they maintain the 20mm internal width. The height remains 25mm, but the spoke bed thickness is increased to make them stronger. That makes them about 20-30g heavier than the SL23, but they are far more robust. They’re aimed at the road and cyclocross racer with a retail of $109 for the front and $119 for the rear.

All should be available by end of this week through their website.

I asked him about new rims weeks ago and he said” nothing new is coming”. I stayed away from sl23 and now offset rim is coming after purchasing other brand rim and spokes.

At least you didn’t reward them by purchasing a Pacenti product.

Maybe if you had asked them specifically that you were after something like the SL23 but more modern and asymmetric in the rear, they might have told you to hold tight. You can’t realistically expect a company to list all the products in development to any stranger who calls them up.

Just because he said no 3 weeks ago doesn’t mean he knew they would come out now. Work in the biz sometime. Or hell, any product development. You may hope something will be ready i. 3-4 weeks or months, but until it lands on your door step and you can ship it…you don’t say shit. Cause the opposite end is he tells you then it’s 3 weeks late, and you’d be on here bitching about that.

I have the most recent SL23s and love them but the brake track is so short, my pads barely fit when perfectly centered. I hope these are a bit taller. If that’s where some of the extra weight gain comes from, I’ll be happy, along with hopefully, a longer wear life.

“It’s aimed at the more traditional commuter and city bikes”

Based on the name “brevet” I think it actually might be aimed at the historical reenactment 650B randonneuring nerds (oh hi!) that still use rim brakes instead of jumping on the 27.5 disc bandwagon.

Pacenti needs to produce a tubular sibling for real cyclocross.

Now I know why my Campy Delta XL Chromium rims ride so nicely – wide and low. Ignored when they came out, nearly forgotten now.
