With current TT/triathlon bar extension brake levers, the lever itself is often plugged into the end of the bar as sort of an after thought, requiring the rider to roll bar tape around the ends to add some grip. TRP thought it could be better, and now that several major manufacturers have committed to making disc brake TT/tri bikes (like this, this, and definitely this), the time was right to do something about it.

They don’t have a formal model name yet, but the working title of “Hydraulic TT Brake” pretty well sums it up. They incorporate a fully enclosed hydraulic disc brake system into bar end levers.

The grips are more ergonomic and will have a tooled reach adjust.

New aero/tri bikes from Diamondback, Cervélo and Parlee already have disc brakes (see links above), and with through axles it makes set up and the reassembly when you arrive at the race venue super quick and easy. It also eliminates set up issues with cable actuated brakes that can be more finicky when being unbolted or partially disassembled for transport.

Available around November, will have athletes with at at Kona. Price TBD.

Question: is that portion just short of the lever a quick disconnect?

yes

Oh boy, a hydraulic coupler for disassembly!!! I’m pretty amazed that nobody has really done this yet. I really hope it becomes an aftermarket thing that can be added to hoses, I really don’t care if its very expensive on its own. I have zero interest in TT bikes with hydraulic brakes but I surely do for other bikes that I’ve yet been willing to by for the sake of easy travel.

SRAM Connectamajig, or Formula Speedlock? Meant for internal routing assembly and not ‘recommended’ for travel, but as long as you don’t try to reattach them daily, they won’t require a bleed for a handful of careful disconnects.

Yeah, I’m looking more for true, in-line systems that go hose to hose

I hope there’s going to be some kind of ability to integrate DI2 buttons (like on the hylex) or Blips!

a switch for etap or shimano di2 would be nice to have integrated into the lever

Compatibility with aerobars may be an issue depending on how deep the bar can go into the lever. The base bar on the P5X has only a few cm’s of extension beyond the airfoil of the base bar. Also bars with the upturn may not be compatible?
