When it comes to tools, Birzman isn’t just focused on the consumer. More and more shops are using their tools as well, which creates the need for the big tools that hide in the back. Technically, these tools would equally be at home in a very well equipped home shop, but most likely they’ll find their way into your favorite local bike shop. Thanks to the proliferation of standards, a lot of tools like headset cup removers have had to add more and more models, just to keep up with developments. Birzman’s cup remover takes an interesting approach to create an all-in-one tool that will save you some room in the toolbox…

Rather than using one tool for each size, the Birzman Universal Head Cup Remover uses a wedge system to expand the tip. The tool will adjust from 28.58mm ( 1 1/8″) to 38.1mm (1 1/2″) and everywhere in between. Adjustments can be made with an adjustable wrench or an allen wrench on the top. It does take a while to thread the adjustment into place but you could hook up a drill and speed up the process. When available, the tool will run $48.32.

Birzman is also jumping full on into wheel repair with a Truing stand, analog tension meter, dial indicators, and a wheel alignment gauge. The Truing stand will fit rims up to 4″ wide and hubs up to 180mm wide so it will work with some fat bikes but not all. Apparently there is another truing stand on the way that will fit everything. However, the stand will fit 29ers without adapters, and features large aluminum adjuster dials and spring loaded calipers and arms. The stand also offers a horizontal adjustment of the caliper to easily measure and dish wheels. Pricing and availability TBA.

That adjustable bearing cup remover is genius.

It is? Genius? Really?

My Park removes all those same size cups (and the endangered 1″ headset cups) but does not require an extra tool to first make it small, then expand it inside the headtube and only then actually do the job of removing the cup by beating it with a hammer.

This just adds a bunch of complexity, parts and time. And when you are in a shop time is money.

A single park tool removing a 1″ cup and a 1.5″? I doubt it.

Insightful replies like this are precisely why I read the BR comments.

The truing stand looks alot like the pro-lite trying stand…. But with cool green knobs… I’ve had one for 4 years and love it! Best trying stand around for sure..

Yup, that’s the pro-lite truing stand. I’m pretty sure Birzman designs nothing, makes nothing, and improves little. It’s the way of the future; rebrand and take all the glory.

Ah, but the Birzman cost $650 on a couple of websites I checked so it must be better. 🙂
