Topeak showed off the TorqueBar last fall along with an interesting assortment of pumps and work stands, but Sea Otter was our first look at its partner in crime, the Nano TorqueBox. Above, the TorqueBar is a miniature handle with ratcheting allen head that comes with a torque measuring extension. The torque section is available in three versions, releasing their tension at 4, 5 or 6 newton meters. Pick what you need, or bring all three along…they’re very small.

The TorqueBox is a standalone set that includes one of the torque wrench extensions plus a set of common Torx and Hex bits. Check that out, and more, below…

The TorqueBox comes in a snap-to-close carrying case that holds the bits and the torque extension…which happens to work just fine on your existing multi-tool or allen wrench, too. If you’re already carrying that along, this set lets you get away with a smaller multi-tool while still offering proper measurement when adjusting things on the trail.

The torque extensions have been tested to remain accurate up to 20,000 clicks, which should give you plenty of time with it before it would need to be replaced. Another bonus, they say you can use it in reverse to loosen bolts, too, without damaging it (some torque wrenches are specifically designed to tighten only).

The TorqueBar with a single torque bit retails for $39.95 and includes the bits. The TorqueBox is $29.95.

Shown before but still cool is the Ninja P mini pump, which hides inside your seatpost. No, not the most convenient location, but totally stealth. Retail is $29.95, max pressure is 160psi and it’s meant for road bikes only.

As someone who upgrades their phone often, one of the biggest annoyances is that battery charger cases are usually designed around a specific model and won’t fit the next generation. So, boom, $80 or so becomes obsolete every year or two. Add in specific bike mounts and the costs add up enough to make it harder to justify upgrading the tech. Enter Topeak’s new universal fit Smartphone Holder Battery Pack to save the day.

The silicone cover and straps stretch to fit any normal sized smartphone (we’re sorry phablet fans, and not just because this case won’t fit your mini tablet that makes calls), even with a protective case, which Topeak also makes. Dual USB charging ports let you keep your phone and an action camera or cycling computer topped off while riding.

The unit does sit your phone up relatively high, but partially it’s because the mounting platform provides room for the battery pack to clear steerer spacers on top of the stem.

It appears the battery charges using a micro USB, but it has dual standard-usb outlets. There’s no reason why it wouldn’t charge a USB-c equipped phone.

Sure, but your charging speed is reduced any time you’re not using a C-C cable. C-C supports higher current.

So, the TorqueBox includes one of the torque wrench extensions. How much for each added extension?

I am very disappointed to find out that these were two separate tools, not an all-in-one Universal Torque Tool AND Smartphone Charger Mount, as implied by the headline.
