Last year Mondraker made the jump to 27.5″ wheels on their popular aluminum Enduro bike the Dune, and now they are taking it one step further with the new Dune Carbon. The new bike builds on Mondraker’s recent carbon success, slotting in between last year’s 140mm all-mountain Foxy Carbon, and early this year’s new 205mm Summun Carbon downhill bike that we checked out at the World Cup in Leogang. The new Dune Carbon borrows from both, combining the lightness and stiffness of the Foxy with the beefed up suspension layout and hardware, plus the adjustable geometry of the Summun.

Jump past the break for more details on the carbon enduro options and a closer look at the new frame…

The Dune Carbon sticks with the same 160mm travel of the aluminum bike and carries over the Zero Suspension System, a dual-linkage virtual pivot design patented by Mondraker. The bike also uses Mondraker’s Forward Geometry, which is a long toptube, short stem layout that they developed for World Cup DH racing. That gives all of the Dune Carbon bikes tiny 30mm stems and long front centers, offering more stability and control on steep, technical terrain.

The frame’s profile and tubing shapes are built with what Mondraker calls Stealth Carbon, which is essentially a optimized mix of different fiber types put together in an angular frame design with smoothly rounded tubes. The Carbon Mondrakers all come with molded to fit downtube and chainstay guards to protect the composite frame.

The bike has the first all-carbon upper link from Mondraker, and includes ICSG05 tabs and internal brake and shifter routing. Frame specs are pretty typical enduro, with a tapered 1.125-1.5″ headtube, 12×142 rear, 180mm post rear brake mount, but standard threaded 73mm BB. It also comes with a detachable carbon mudguard to protect the suspension components, and a carbon chainring guard for 30-34T rings.

The Dune Carbon comes in 4 sizes (15-21″), and 3 spec levels. The top end 9000€ XR gets a 170mm fork, while the 7500€ RR and 6000€ R go with a 160mm option. The XR comes with an adjustable geometry kit that offers a +/-1° headtube angle and 430 or 440mm chainstays, while the kit can be bought separately for the other two models.

The frame will be available separately as well for 4000€ with the adjustable geometry kit, and comes with a limited Lifetime warranty. Weight is claimed at 2450g for a medium frame without shock; and 12.9kg, 12.6kg, and 12.9kg respectively for the complete XR, RR, and R.

WIth this long front center “trend” (of which I kind of like) will mountain bike need to shift to more sizing options that the normal s/m/l? There is little room for adjustment with a spec’d 30mm stem nor do you want to ruin the intent by going smaller and running a longer stem.

@antoine thats why id rather have a last-year chinese-frame that theyll all tell you is so going to explode and warrantyless (hint hint: it doesnt explode and the warranty is better than big manufacturers which rarely honor the so-called lifetime warranties)

which ends up being… 5k for the absolute best equipement, instead of 10k. so, like, 50% diff, yeah, thanks.
