Fyxation’s Blackhawk Carbon Fiber Fat Bike Gets The Milwaukee Brand Off Road

Fyxation, born in Milwaukee, WI with the fixie movement. They haven’t just been on that pavement the whole time though. The winters can get pretty snowy and nasty in the great white north, so they moved on to a mountain bike that can be ridden throughout the snow season.

The Blackhawk is a carbon fiber, suspension corrected fat bike with a 197mm rear end, and can run either 26×5″ or 29×3″ tires.

Although the Blackhawk looks and smells like a fat bike, the guys at Fyxation call it a four season trail bike, and they ride it all year long. Take a look after the jump for the details…

Fyxation makes no intent on hiding that the Blackhawk is built from a stock frame offering from an asian vendor. The 4lb frameset is an excellent starting point to hang the sold group of parts, and it’s what allows this bike that has a full carbon frame and fork, Raceface cranks, tubeless rims, Surly Nate tires, and Hayes hydraulic brakes to be $2,795. It is also available as a frameset for $1,795.

The hubset is also built by Fyxation with a 150mm front spacing, so the bike is easily Bluto compatible without swapping any other parts. The hubs can be had in a complete wheelset with Sun Mulefut rims for $550, which is a steal, and is the stock wheelset that comes on the bike. Regardless of the origin of the frame, all the details are sorted including front and rear through-axles, modern geometry with a 69.5 degree head tube angle and two different graphics options.

It’s a Milwaukee brand, but the pictures are clearly taken on the local trails in Duluth, Minnesota. That top picture is Brewer Park. It’s on the ridge above my house. Yeah Duluth!

Kinda feels like it doesn’t know what it wants to be. hub spacing is for 5″ tires, but suspension corrected for 4″ or 29+ tires, but no rack mounts(which is pretty critical for something that wants to be a 29+.) Weird. don’t think I’d pick it over one of the many other choices out there.

That sticky icky brown dirt looks awesome. We’ve had literally 0.0 inches of rain in the SF bay area in January and the trails are moondust 🙁
