Vittoria IKON Orange

Since the 70’s, Vittoria has been cranking out high quality, Italian made cycling shoes.  The feet of greats such as Marco Pantani, Thor Hushovd, and Luca Paolini have ridden in these shoes.  The newest model from Vittoria is their top of the line, lightweight road shoe dubbed the IKON.

The new IKON is Vittoria’s range topping road shoe, bumping the Hora Evo to second place.  It features a unique upper that is designed with comfort in mind.  To achieve this, they made it from Microfiber Soft Touch material and used minimal sewing.  The shoes allow for maximum breathability thanks to micro holes cut using a laser.  The performance insole is custom moldable to the riders foot.  The outer sole of the IKON is a brand new UD carbon design specially made for the IKON.  It has air vents cut in to keep air flowing through the shoe.  That sole comes in either a 3 bolt or Speed-Play version.

Pedal past the break for the rest of the details.

The retention system is the new Vittoria SPP Micrometrics Closure System that allows the rider to easily and quickly open and close the shoe.  Inside, the shoe has a heel retention system as well, helping to make the shoe feel like an extension of your foot.

The weight weenies out there need apply.  At 229g (size 41, per shoe), the IKON is in the lightweight class.  It gets a few grams lighter if you opt for the Speed-Play sole.

The best part however, is the same thing that made us love Vittoria Shoes from the beginning.  They make shoes in a very wide size range.  Full sizes for the IKON run from 38-48.  Half sizes start at 38.5 and go through 45.5.  And, if you are the type that has two different feet, they can accommodate that too.

Colors* for the IKON are limited to melt off your face orange, Ninja Turtle ooze green**, or squeaky clean white.  These Italian made foot coverings will run you $499.

I’ve got nothing but good things to say about Vittoria USA. They worked with our shop to essentially mash-up two shoes (upper from one, sole from another) at the factory in Italy in order for us to accommodate one of our best customers. The shoe she wanted simply wasn’t available from any other vendor. When we received the invoice, expecting a justifiably large charge, it was within $20 of comparable shoes from Giro, Specialized, and others. I’ve never received this level of service from any other company, cycling-related or not.

I’d love to try a pair of these. I need a narrow fit and a last with good arch support like the Sidi wire. Any info on the fit relative to a sidi, Giro, Northwave or shimano shoe?
