The ability to ride is something we’ve all probably taken for granted at one time or another. But for those who can’t ride, Outrider is looking to provide the opportunity to feel that freedom from a bike that we all know and love, again. Outrider has created a full suspension, all-terrain, electric trike. Possible of 9 different configurations for people of all different physical abilities, including many quadriplegics and paraplegics. Co-developed with their friend Christopher Wenner who was an avid mountain biker until he broke his neck at 17, Chris started developing an electric bike that he could ride and then reached out to Outrider to pursue it on a bigger scale.

The rest they say, is history. Or it will be after the Kickstarter campaign is finished. They have already met their goal, but they have now introduced a new stretch goal of 250 backer or $115,000 raised, they will commence operation Turbo Tommy. Find out more after the jump…

This trike really does have independent front suspension as well as the ability to run panniers, and a ton of options.

There are only 5 days left of their Kickstarter campaign, so if you want to help out or order one for your self (or a friend) get on it.

If they meet their stretch goal, Outrider will embark on the journey to produce a record setting electric trike. The goal is to break 85 mph with a Horizon running dual motors. Sounds pretty fun.

I am normally very opposed to electric bikes in MTB trails, but this is the exception. Just like service dogs are allowed where pets aren’t, I would support e-bike access for this use.

Great to see that they tried to make this so adaptable to many disabilities.

Thanks BR for giving some attention to a good cause.

I strongly disagree. First off I am very sorry that anyone ends up with limited mobility from an accident or injury. But in my neck of the woods single track trails are tight and an 85mph bullit coming at me uphill is not something that I would want to encounter. Just sounds like a recipe for more mayhem , death and destruction.

Fattylocks,
Just so everyone is on the same page, the All-Terrain Horizon is going to have a top speed of 20 mph, so it will be very compatible with the average speeds of mountain bikes.

The 85 mph speed record attempt is on a modified race-version of our Alpha high-performance road trike. This race-spec Alpha is not commercially available, and is strictly set up to attempt the land speed record, and advance ultralight pedal-electric vehicle technology.

Nooge,
Thank you for your encouragement! We really appreciate it.

Cheers,

Tommy
