What’s better than carbon or titanium? Control Tech thinks the answer is carbon and titanium. Adding to the company’s range of titanium TiMania parts is their new road drop bar which fuses carbon fiber and titanium. The bar’s construction uses a titanium top section, with unidirectional carbon fiber throughout the whole bar including the drops. ControlTech says that titanium is uniquely suited to the clamp section of the bar, but carbon is a better material for the drops, which results in the unique cross section of materials shown here.

Offered in only 40 and 42cm widths, the bar has a 130mm drop with 75mm reach. At 235g don’t expect the bar to come cheap with a price tag of around $478.

The TiMania drop bar joins the rest of the TiMania group including their monocoque ti stem. The stem is completely forged from titanium, and isn’t held together by welds.

The EXL drop bar would be much more comfortable if it was swept forward. Sweep back when wider than shoulders, other wise sweep forward. Makes sense if you think about it…

So pretty.

I think it is pretty cool idea, to combine titanium parts and carbon parts. By these means, the benefits of both components are transferred to the final product. While titanium parts and carbon parts are light and stable, the also are resistant to corrosion. Besides, the optics of these parts impress as well.
