Photos submitted by Andrew Hawkes, “Here are a couple pics I took on a recent overnight work trip in October 2013 in Roxby Downs and Andamooka South Australia – About 6 hours and 564km North into the outback from where the Tour Down Under will be starting in just a weeks time. My beloved Bianchi almost seemed way out of place in the outback surrounds!” More from Andrew and another photo after the break.

“I had an install to do for work and after I had finished thought I would ride out to the desert opal mining town of Andamooka. I had a fresh tail wind to Andamooka 30km away which also gave me a false sense of fitness too! I ended up with an average speed of 39.3kmh over the Stava segment, not too bad for me who is more at home in the hills. The return journey was the complete opposite, pedaling squares into a headwind and I was chasing the sun back to Roxby with weary legs. (Hoping the very large wedge tail eagles didn’t want to peck at me for dinner too).”
