Litespeed 650bAre you ready for Christmas? A customer of Suck Creek Cycles is now, thanks to their help bringing this mid-90s Litespeed Ocoee into the 21st century(it’s actually a Christmas present for their son or daughter – we don’t want to ruin any surprises). In addition to the obvious 650b wheels crammed into the 26″ frame, the Ocoee has also undergone disc tab reassignment surgery to allow the use of disc brakes.  A full Shimano XT kit, Stan’s Arch EX wheels, and Fox fork top it off. As Sam from Suck Creek says, this Ti is back in the GAME!

Looks good! I’m glad the parents are helping the child avoid the social stigma of riding 26″ wheels. Try getting a date to the prom with a 26’er in 2013!

Pretty cool way to reduce and reuse! Lucky kid.

On a related note, anyone know someone in the Boston area who could add disc tabs to a to frame like the above?

The 650 looks like it was made for this frame and fills up the rear nicely!

Superstantial – while not in the Boston area, a friend had his old GT Xizang ti frame updated with disc tabs by Guru bikes.

Superstantial – Give Seven Cycles a call in Watertown, they could probably get you taken care of. Maybe Firefly if Seven can’t work it in.

Great bike, but I gotta go w/ the Lynskey Ridgeline 29er w/ Stans & Crest rims! Just saying!

Thanks to Zoltan and bkf. You’re both superstars.

bkf – you think Firefly or Seven would take something this small on? They clearly do good work, but I was thinking it’d be a waste of time to contact them.

Thanks again, netizens.

Superstantial, Indy Fab farther to the north might also be worth a try.

I had something similar done to my old Litespeed Obed, by DeSalvo Cycles in Ashland OR. Mike DeSalvo did a beautiful job grinding the tab to fit, aligning it perfectly, and welding it up. The welds were fully as nice as the Litespeed welds on the rest of the frame. His price was very reasonable and included shipping back and forth. The only downside was that there was a bit of a wait, which I knew going in, because he wanted to line up some similar small jobs and bang them all out at once. I highly recommend DeSalvo for that sort of thing.

Dave Levy at Ti Cycles in Oregon is an amazing Ti framebuilder and well known for epic™ repairs and frame upgrades. If you can’t find someone local, hop on his website.
