If you were to design a shoe specifically for cross, what would it be? Giant toe spikes? Check. Replaceable sole pieces? Check. In the case of Lake shoes, we saw their prototype at Sea Otter and the production version of the shoe was on display at Interbike which will be available in about 10 days! Obviously, the cross season has already started, but at least they’ll get here before the end of the season. The MX331 Cross features much of the tunable traction sole as the prototype, though it’s not without a few changes.

The upper hasn’t changed since we saw it last, but that’s because it shares the upper with the MX331 mountain shoe. A single Boa closure secures the Pittard’s Amourtan Goat Leather shoe to your feet, while the fit is aided with an internal Thermaform carbon heel counter.

The sole is 100% carbon fiber and has a replaceable rubber cleat pocket along with toe and heel spikes. The spikes are customizable based on the conditions from hardpack to mud. The MX331 Cross will retail for $379 and is offered in men’s standard and wide, along with women’s, all in full or half sizes.

New since Sea Otter is the MX237, a full grain leather mountain bike shoe with dual Boa closures. Offered in Black, White, and Orange, the shoes will retail for $279.

Another Lake Race carbon fiber sole is found with a Mountain Race X rubber tread and replaceable toe spikes.

Winter is coming and Lake will be ready to keep your feet warm and dry with the MX145 and CX145s. The waxed canvas uppers are waterproof and good down to around 20°f to keep you warm. Those living in much colder climates will still want to look for Lakes 303 heavy duty mega boot, but the 145s should be just the ticket for most of us. C’mon Lake- give those things an acronym. I nominate BTT (or Beaver Tooth Technology)

PS- love Lake shoes. Always awesome, and they use Kangaroo leather! (Gives +2 on jumping.)

Really digging both shoes. After looking at the MX331 for a while all I could see was Mater. That doesn’t stop me from wanting them on the feet.
