Co-Motion Macchiato Tandem

Every year for Interbike, Co-Motion builds an over the top bike, then hands it over to their skilled painters for what always comes out as one amazing bicycle.  This year was no different, as they showed up with a Gulf Oil themed tandem weighing in at a scant 25.5lbs.  While technically it’s not the lightest they have built, it comes close, and this one is the first they have done up with Rolf Prima’s new carbon tandem road disc wheels.

Build details plus their new gravel bike past the jump.

The full build includes Dura-Ace Di2 9070, a full carbon tapered fork slotted into a tapered head tube (a first for a Co-Motion tandem), disc brakes, Rolf Prima carbon disc wheels, SL-K cranks, and a timing chain cum gates carbon belt.  That front derailleur clamp is custom machined in house as well, to keep the chain line perfect with a dual ring setup rather than a triple tandem crank.  The base price for a Macchiato hits $9795, and this build’s upgrades push it to $13,650.

Co-Motion Klatch Full Bike

For a first time in a long time, Co-Motion is introducing a new model dubbed the Klatch.  It slides into the gravel grinder slot.  It’s constructed of Reynolds 853 air hardened steel with a tapered headtube, uses a 68mm threaded BB, includes a third water bottle mount on the down tube, and implements both fender and rack mounts.  The BB is a bit lower than that on their cross bikes.  The build includes an Enve CX disc fork, TRP Spyre mechanical disc brakes, Stan’s NoTubes Iron Cross wheels, and a 105 drive train with FSA crank geared with a 50/34 up front, and an 11-32 in the rear.  Base price for the frameset is $2195, with the full build ringing up at $4460

That gravel grinder is cool, but more expensive than most custom frames out there…

For the price of that gravel bike you can get two Niner RLT’s with the same 105 group and an extra wheelset. I guess the overpriced market continues.

Now I’m sad I missed them at Interbike. Good stuff.

I love Co-Motion! I have owned two of their tandems in the past and will buy another one day. For now, I am awaiting the geometry to be finalized on the Klatch. I am purchasing a frame set and considering it has an Enve fork, it is a good value. Even better to be able to ride a quality bike that is produced in the US by great folks. Bravo Co-Motion!

I’d love to buy a Co-Motion tandem, but… more than $10 000 for a bike with mechanical disc brakes?? I wonder whether there is a reason not to use either the newest SRAM or Shimano hydraulic brakes?

@mulletracer
$2200 with an enve fork and paint is VERY MUCH in line price wise, heck it’s $500 less than what a typical custom builder would need to sell that frameset for to make any money!

Should be a corker! 853, lower bb. Bet it will ride like a buttered muffin!

Hmm, now I’m hungry.

I was talking to them last year about ordering a Klatch equivalent…a lower BB version of their ‘cross bike. So glad they just put one into production and I’ll definitely be saving up some money to get one. Already have the Nor’Wester and a tandem. Great bikes!

This just in….custom U.S. made bikes Cost more than mass produced Taiwan junk.

To call frames made in Taiwan “junk” is to be completely ignorant about bike quality. Note there is nothing special about frames made in the US that prevents them from being “junk”. Of course, it is easier to just post without thinking since thinking must be hard.

@psi, think harder. You can do it! Didn’t say all Taiwan frames are junk, but to say the Co-Motion frame is overpriced means comparing it to something non custom imported at a much lower price point. Those apples aren’t these apples. Hope you comprehend.
