In preparation for the coming cyclocross season, Stan’s were showing a widened range of Iron Cross tubeless-compatible disc-compatible wheelsets at PressCamp last week.  While last year’s Iron Cross getting upgraded stainless steel bearings and an 11-speed compatible freehub body to become the $675 Iron Cross Team, it is joined from below by the Iron Cross Comp and from above by the Iron Cross Pro.  Full details after the break.

While all three wheelsets use the same 375g rim extrusion, the Iron Cross Comp caters to less-delicate riders–and wouldn’t be inappropriate for commuting use–with its 32 front and rear spokes.  That $595 build uses last year’s chrome steel bearing and the disc-only set weighs in at 1,590g.

SONY DSCIn order to hit the 1,400g mark, the Iron Cross Pro cut the spoke count back to 24 and 28.  Those spokes connect to 3.30RdTi hubs (featuring a titanium ratchet ring) and come with carbon lever’d, hollow CrMo quick release skewers.  Red aluminum nipples and a superlight red valve stem add a bit of bling to the top-end wheelset.  A $105 padded double wheelbag rounds out the Pro package, which sells for $875.

The rims are available in 24, 28, and 32 hole drillings for $88.  Delivery for the three updated three Iron Cross wheelsets is expected some time around August- just in time for ‘cross season.

Not sure about the naming though… it was already doubtful in pop-culture but somehow legit. Ah well, I´m biased because I´m german.

It’s because that band was not good, the only reason anyone heard about them was due to Agnostic Front and Dropkick Murphys covering their songs. So is Stan a skin?

As far as I know the name is in reference to the Iron Cross CX race. http://www.ironcrossrace.blogspot.com

Nice! wheelbags are a great touch.

That’s a really good weight for the Pro especially for a cross wheelset and the price is not too bad either. What’s the internal width?

Jacob, I.W. is 20mm. Typical road rim is something like 14-15mm.

The Iron Cross rim is the same as the Alpine, FWIW.

@Mateo, yes and no. The profile is the same but the Alpines to not come in 29ers.

I have this rim built up to a DTswiss 350 Strait pull hub. I ran it tubeless with cross tires without issues. So far so good.

seems like if you are going to build a wheelset, the crest rim would be a better option for cross being a touch lighter and a touch wider.

@mike, it seems that the profile of this rim might be better for cutting through deeper mud though.
