2013 Spank Components Spike Darren Berrecloth signature series handlebars

Spank’s Darren Berrecloth signature series collection gets a little more robust with his own version of the 777 Freeride components. They include a 35-50mm stem and a stronger handlebar in 15 or 30 millimeter rises.

The DB 777 Spike bars use their Dual XGT (Xtreme Gradual Taper) multiple bar thickness design. The inside taper is extended from center and under the clamping areas and ends. The tapers are very smooth with no visible start and stopping points, which they say prevents stress risers. Production will have a shot peened finish on clamp and grip areas to reduce the chance of slippage.

It comes in at 310g, 30g more than their top DH bar but made to take pretty much anything you can throw at it. Including Berrecloth.

In addition to all the butting near the center, the tubes get a bit thicker right at the ends to make them stronger under impact.

2013 Spank Components Oozy trail mountain bike group gets new stem and wheels

Oozy Trail group grows beyond the original bars. Originally announced in August, Interbike gave us some hands on time and the products look good. Bars come in 720mm widths with 5mm or 15mm rise, both tipping in at 280g. Available in black and chrome.

Aimed at the all-mountain rider, the new Oozy 3D forged stem is not just gorgeous, it’s fairly light. Weights range from 145g to 160g depending on length (50/65/75mm available). They’ll come in black or this deep chrome to match the handlebars.

The Oozy wheels will come in 26″ and 29er wheels (650B are likely coming) and use their Oohbah rim profile with a bulbous center section to help guide the tire’s bead to the edges and make it much stiffer. Rim width is 26mm outer/21mm inner and weights are 420g (26″) and 485g (29er).

They, too, come in matching chrome or black ano. Both wheel sizes run 28 straight pull triple-butted Sandvik spokes front and rear. Axles are QR/15mm front and QR135/12×142 rear with adapters to run a 20mm front and 12×135 or 10×135 rear. Wheelsets weigh a claimed 1600g (26″) and 1750g (29er), pretty good for wide-rimmed all-mountain wheelset. Available for order now, delivery in November.
