Ellsworth Roots CycloCross Frame

Ellsworth has been on their game with some sick 650b and 29er builds we glimpsed at Eurobike, and we’ve been keeping up with them since we interviewed Tony Ellsworth.

On top of their new mountain bike builds, they’re updating the Roots CX frame for 2013. It gets the same logo design as the 2012 version, but has the added option of running disc brakes (though shown above with cantis). The frame is constructed from aluminum with carbon seat stays and chain stays. A tapered top tube makes it easy to shoulder over barriers and cable routing is on top of the frame, pretty standard, to keep the mud away. Pricing is $995 for the frame and fork, $845 for the frame at Ellsworth’s online store.

sigh. 546TT jumps to 585 from M to L? I think they’ve just missed a huge portion of the population sizing it like that.

What’s with that road chainring on the front? I went and checked the site, and they’re speccing it with a 34-50 chainring and an 11-25 cassette, which is a laughably bad combination for actual CX. Great commuting spec, though. :/
