In the 90’s, Heinz Obermayer hand crafted the first pair of carbon fiber Lightweight wheels in his workshop, and he continues to lead their special projects development and sits on the company’s board.

The tubular wheelset takes their and gives it a special Duraflon gold finish for four spokes, his signature and the serial number. Purchase includes invitation to a special factory tour in August and to their booth at Eurobike later that same month. Wheel weights are just 420g front and 565g rear (985g per pair) with 16/20 spokes. Despite the ludicrously light weight, they claim it’s the stiffest wheel in their range.

Each pair includes valve extensions, titanium skewers, brake pads, wheel bags and tire levers. Campagnolo and Shimano/SRAM free hubs are available. Maximum system weight (rider plus bike) is 100kg (220lbs). This follows their recently introduced Meilenstein clincher wheels.

The tubular wheelset takes their what?

I kind of agree with other people that Reynold’s RZR is a more superior, better engineered wheelset.

How much is too much? I mean, how long until they become the Rapha of Rims (i.e. uncool)?
Like their tech, and love the ride of my Standards, but start to question whether the recent marketing push is really adding anything desirable to what they stand for … limited edition, gold finish, signature…who wants to be seen with this?

@Evan — If you mean Reynolds RZR is better by the mere fact that for the same weight they are springy, have terrible bearing drag, and flimsy as a cup of oodles of noodles, you would be correct sir. I’m sure you’re just another employee of Reynolds trying to get some free artificial hype.

@Evan — I also forgot to mention that lightweights have a 220lb weight limit, whereas your RZR has a limit of 180lbs.

@mj1954- I’m just going on the fact that the technology of Lightweight seems to have not changed in the past half-decade, and the RZR is between 90-60 grams lighter than the Obermayer and even more over the Ventoux. As for being employed by Reynolds….Nope. I think there low end carbon wheels are junk and the high end overpriced.

@mj1984 Any chance you work for Carbonsports perhaps?

@Evan,Obermayer’s are 985grams and RZR 46 968grams..so only 17grams in the difference,But stiffness is more difficult to quantitfy, and drag is very important… which is best ?? I don’t know but warranty is also important on wheels this expensive.

I ride a pair of these and also hav a pair of Meilenstein tubular wheels…the Gold Ed cost Sing Dollar 7,000 or usd 5850 approx here in Singapore..the standard wheels were 5100 sing dolalrs or approx 4,000 usd..for anyone looking for these wheels they are significantly cheaper here in Singapore from the authorized importer..not some Chinese copy crap…in facf just about all bike stuff is cheaper out here…the Gold Edition wheels are the business..I ride Mavics and Reynolds also..nothing comes close and I weigh 86 kg and am tough on my equipment..these wheels take a beating
