Earlier last year, we reported on the fact that Deda Elementi had introduced a new bar and stem combo that had a 35mm OD instead of the now commonplace 31.8. It seems that most roadies were quick to scoff at the new size, thinking that unless you sprint with the likes of Cavendish, a stiffer bar wasn’t needed. About a month later, Tyler also wrote about Easton’s new bar and stem offering which also happened to be 35mm. Though that’s where the similarities stop. While a road bar might not necessarily need any more stiffness, it’s another story entirely when you start getting into DH handlebars that are 700+ mm wide.

You can call it a fashion statement, silly trend, or whatever you want, but as down hill and free riders demand wider bars up to 800mm wide(!), Easton realized you can’t just keep making the same bar wider. Something has to give.

Enter the new Havoc 35. Designed from the ground up to be wider, lighter, and stronger. That’s right. Not only is the Havoc 35 lighter than last years 31.8mm Havoc, it has tested up to 15% stronger and 21% stiffer. The Havoc 35 will be available in both carbon, and aluminum with multiple colors, along with both standard, and direct mount stems.

How to celebrate the new wider, stiffer, lighter, stronger bar? How about an $8,500 prize pack that includes a Kona Entourage pimped out with a complete Easton Havoc kit along with an all-expense-paid trip to Whistlerto ride the world-famous bike park during Crankworx side by side with Graham Agassiz? Sound good? I thought so. Check out Easton’s Havoc site to enter.
