Paul Components had a wide range of new bits and pieces for road, commuter and fat bikes. Above is their new disc brake 170 snow bike/fat bike rear hub.

A couple rows over in the NAHBS show hall Pacenti had a monstrous new 650B tire and new rim widths for XC to Freeride. After that, VP Components has a brilliant new road pedal and cleat system.

Curious what the market is for a 135mm spaced non-disc road bike hub? So was I. Paul said its for some brands and some cross bikes that use that spacing. If you fall into that category, you have one more shiny option.

New rims, the TL28 has been shipping since December for trail riding. The cross country CL25 and super-D/Enduro DL31 rim come out in early July. Numeral is external width, internal width is 5mm less. Weights are 360g, 410g and 520g by width for the 650B diameter. They’re also available in 26″ and 29er sizes with 28, 32 ad 36 hole drillings.

VP COMPONENTS

Sometimes the solution to a problem is so simple as to appear genius. VP’s new R73 road pedals are Look KEO compatible and feature two piece cleats. Using a jigsaw coupling shape, they let you replace one section at a time so you never lose your position on the shoe.

$95 for pedals, and just $30 for cleats. Like Look’s cleats, two versions are available for varying degrees of float. They’re available direct or your shop can order through KHS distributors.

We saw the new Vice and VP69 pedals last year, now they’re in stock and shipping, as is the forged titanium axle for the VP-69. It drops 70g from the set, SRP is $100. Because it’s forged, they say it’s stronger than the chromoly axle it replaces and has no rider weight limit.
