Funk Cycles’ new La Ruta CTI has a carbon fiber front triangle with tubes made by ENVE and titanium rear triangle made in-house in Denver, CO.

The design is fairly straightforward, using a flat titanium plate behind the bottom bracket that flexes to provide 80mm of rear wheel travel without a pivot. This bike is an XL and weighs in at just…

20lbs 13oz. Here’s the build: Formula R1R, KMC chain, XX with Race Face Next cranks, Token carbon saddle, ENVE bar, stem, post and rims on DT Swiss hubs, Schwalbe Racing Ralph tires tubeless with Stan’s sealant and carbon Lefty fork. Hidden from view is an Experimental Prototypes replacement Lefty steerer tube, which drops about 150g from the fork assembly. They put a high volume canister shock on it to give it a more linear compression curve.

Shock mount on TT is aluminum and is both bonded and riveted on.

The carbon tubes used are thicker than most, they’re tandem tubes and they’re made in UT by ENVE. The thicker tubes make it stronger with (obviously) no weight penalty to speak of. Frame is $4,000 versus standard for $3,000.

Just for fun, we weighed the XL La Ruta Exogrid model with carbon reinforcements in the downtube and it came in a full pound heavier…some of that due to spec (SID versus Lefty, WTB saddle but otherwise very similar builds).

21lbs 13oz.

Road bikes get a new 1″ diameter chainstay option for heavier riders. It’s not shown on this model. They have some other new frames coming soon, too, which we’ll cover once they send some pics.
