stem cap captain clock

“The only thing that separate us from the animals is our ability to accessorize.”

We can thank Steel Magnolias for that quote, and then we can thank Stem CAPtain for giving us the very things that separate us from the animals:

…a clock so you can time your laps, a thermometer to tell you how much that temperature drop really was as you ascended the mountain, a compass to help you find your way back to the car, or a picture frame to give you a place to put that picture of whatever it is that keeps you pedaling.

Stem CAPtain is a small start-up that’s catching on, based out of Grand Junction, Colorado. Owners Graeson and Mike thought it would be a great idea to utilize that wasted bit we call the “stem cap” and make it more useful than just topping your steerer tube. They use as much locally sourced material and labor as possible in their production and offer their products at a reasonable price – all under $25. Let’s support these guys …and accessorize!

I like the idea I just wish they were more securely installed, like thread the inside of the part that’s bolted down and the outside of the insert.

A barometer would also be a neat option. maybe with the thermometer?

A cue sheet holder or a head lamp mount would also be cool.

@user:
I’ve had a couple of Stem Captains on different bikes for over a year and despite a number of wrecks they’ve stayed put- no issues whatsoever…

The analog watch is nice, but I’d be afraid of its parts getting shaken to death. Any options for a digital LCD?

I heard that an ashtray version would be ready pretty soon.

What about a holder for the displaced stem cap?

Hey everyone, thanks for your comments and for checking us out! We actually have some other variations in the works. A bottle opener will be available in the next few weeks, and an altimeter is in prototyping phase. We’ll think about the corkscrew and ashtray for future projects 🙂

The connection to the bike is very secure and we rarely have complaints about inserts popping out. The clock is very durable, waterproof and quality construction. It can “take a licking and keep on ticking”. We stand behind our products 100%. If you aren’t satisfied with a purchase, we don’t want the money.

Cheers and see you on the trail!
