topeak journey bike trailer with dry bag

Topeak had a variety of new accessories, tools and other gear on hand at Sea Otter.

Above, the Journey Trailer and Dry Bag has an alloy frame and 16″ wheel with an included, sonically welded roll-top dry bag that doubles as standalone luggage. The frame has an integrated thin plastic bottom, so you can use it without the bag for larger items, too. It uses a quick release attachment on an extended QR skewer that’ll work with 130mm or 135mm spacing and 26″ or 700c/29er wheels.

More on that and their new pumps, iPhone mounts, saddle bags and more after the break…

The arms mount directly to the skewer attachments, keep it far enough back to avoid heel clearance issues and allow it to work with disc-brake equipped bikes. The black part rests on the axle, then the yellow bit slides forward to lock it on. The frame is very sturdy with oversized tubing. Recommended weight limit is around 70lbs of cargo. The rear fender keeps muck from splattering on your stuff and has a light clip built in so you can easily attach a blinky, and it also comes with a bright yellow safety flag that attaches to the rear. Trailer weight is about 10.7lbs, bag adds 3.5lbs.

topeak joe blow xo floor pump

The new Joe Blow X.O. is a shiny machined alloy floor pump that’ll push up to 200psi into your tires. Like it’s mini pumps, it gets a variation of their SmartHead threadlock valve head to work with both Presta and Schrader. Base and handle are machined and it has an extra long braided metal hose to help reach bikes mounted in the workstand.

The RaceRocket MT is their new mountain bike specific mini-pump. It has a larger diameter barrel to pump up large volume tires quicker and will go to 90psi. I like the design with the extending flexible hose, which was reviewed recently here on the standard RaceRocket. Claimed weight is 114g.

The Wedge seatbags have a great side-opening feature to make access quicker and easier, and the yellow interior makes it easy to see things. Two sizes available, both with internal storage features. They mount with plastic clamps onto the seat rails, and the larger size has a Velcro loop to stabilize it on the seastpost.

topeak TryDryBag waterproof top tube mounted bike tool bag for triathletes

The TriDryBag finally brings their top-tube mounted triathlon mini bags to the U.S. This new version has a waterproof cover with the same yellow interior. It mounts to the steerer tube and top tube to keep things in easy reach while tucked into elbow coddling aerobars.

The WhiteLite HP Mega has been teased for a while, and now it’s finally out. It’s a 10W, 900 Lumen light that’ll mount to either your bar or helmet. The aluminum and magnesium light head weighs in at just 138g (claimed), and it’ll have an extension for running the battery in your pocket or hydration pack when wearing it on the helmet.

It has three power levels plus blinking, and keeps a 30 minute reserve on the lowest setting for getting you out of the woods. Run time is 3 hours on high, 6 hours at 5W/450 Lumens. Once mounted, the base gives you 30º of vertical adjustment, and it attaches to the bar with a simple rubber strap, making removal quick and easy. The button is illuminated with different colors for each setting.

The iPhone DryBag comes with a handlebar mount and will keep your iPhone clean and dry while still allowing use of the touchscreen. It’ll also work with their optional steerer tube cap mount. There’s a camera port designed around the iPhone 4, but the case should fit any model. The clip will also work as a belt clip if that’s how you roll.

topeak bicycle fenders

Their new DeFender series of mountain bike fenders range from casual to heavy duty and have a range of adjustability on the more complex models. The use quick release mounts for easy installation/removal.

I really appreciate the products Topeak puts out on to the market, I only wish they would step up on quality. It seems like every Topeak product I have purchased I was very excited about initially only to be disappointed in the long run. My DXP trunk bag with fold out panniers ripped to shreds after only a semester of commuting, my roll top dry bag panniers constantly flew off my bike while riding over the smallest bumps, and my Tour Guide Handle bar bag has an embarrassedly flimsy (for Topeak) mounting system which broke upon the first tightening. I think their products suit the weekend warrior very well, but for serious riders it seems they do not hold up to the rigors of road.
