We just got a set of Michelin’s new Wild Race’r, Wild Grip’r and Wild Rock’r tires in for testing, and per usual they went straight on the scale.
The Wild Race’r tires are the 26×2.1 Tube Type version and come in at 590g. Compared to the claimed weight of 600g for the standard 60tpi single-compound version, it’s showing 10g lighter than claimed. The Advanced dual compound 127tpi model supposedly checks in at 530g. As mentioned in the other post, at first glance there are similarities to the Conti Race King. But once you see it up close, the side knobs really ramp up considerably.
Michelin says that you can run the Tube Type tires as tubeless on two conditions: You use sealant and they’re installed on a UST rim, and that’s how we plan on testing these out.
The Wild Rock’r we received was the 26×2.10 and it came in at 598g, which is a full 17g under claimed weight. (Tube Type 60tpi single compound model).
The Wild Grip’r is the TL (tubeless) 127tpi dual compound model in a 26×2.25. It weighed in at 841g, the only one that came in heavier than claimed. Claimed weight is 815g. You can tell it’s dual compound by the gray-ish tint to the tread section versus the blacker sidewalls.
The latter two have been shipped off to Zach for testing, and Tyler will be testing the Race’r model. Look for a full review in a few months.
