2012 santa cruz highball carbon fiber hardtail 29er weight for medium

As usual, I brought along the Park Tools scale to weigh the bikes in person. Commendably, the claimed weights are pretty much spot on or even skewing a bit high across all three models.

Shown above is the size medium Highball carbon fiber 29er hardtail, and it comes in at 21lbs 14oz. I weighed the complete size run of all three except the small Blur TRc because there weren’t any on hand, pics and weights after the break…

The Large Highball (left) comes in at 22lbs even, and the XL is 22lbs 2oz, meaning there’s only about a 2oz difference in the frame sizes since they’re spec’d the same. Not too shabby overall considering there’s nothing super chi-chi on these bikes…they could easily be built down below 21lbs.

The Tallboy AL weighed in at 27lbs 8oz.

The Large Tallboy AL comes in at 27lbs 10oz and the XL at 27lbs 13oz. They don’t make a Small size in their 29er range, but Mike Ferrentino, SC’s dark lord of marketing babble, says their medium is pretty comparable in size to Niner’s small.

The new Blur TRc (and yes, the “c” stands for carbon, which leads us to believe there will be an alloy model in the future) came in at 24lbs 15oz, however  I’m going to double check this with a re-weigh later because…

The Large Blur TRc came in at 24lbs 5oz with a little mud on it and the shiny-fresh-out-of-the-box XL was just 24lbs 3oz.

All weights were without pedals and with identical builds for that model. It’s worth noting that there are going to be several 2012 component group and suspension launches from various folks at Sea Otter Classic, which will affect the builds available from Santa Cruz when these bikes start showing up on their bike builder for sale in mid/late May.

I like to see that the Reverb seatpost comes standard on the Blur TRc.
