2011 is here, and it’s time to replace that old Primal Wear jersey you’re still wearing from the 90’s. Campagnolo has some slick new offerings in their 2011 line, part of a new image for Campy which includes the launch of three new clothing lines for Spring/Summer and a new logo for Campagnolo Sportswear, the clothing division of Campy. We got a preview of their Tech Motion gear, a high performance line that will take you from zero to Italian in no time. See all the gear (and the new logo) after the break.

The Tech Motion windproof jacket above is a sweet looking outer layer that Campy says provides complete protection from the wind, while still being breathable. If you’re familiar with any of Campy’s other products, you may have heard of Light Textran; the material developed by the company designed to wick moisture (sweat) away while remaining soft and comfortable. It’s not waterproof, but should keep you pretty comfortable in a wide range of conditions. The color shown above is called “Titanium” and the jacket will also be offered in a color called “Lake” in sizes from S to XXXL.

The line also has a “light” wind jacket, although the “light” part only refers to the weight, not the features, because this one uses laminated waterproof fabric, so it is wind AND waterproof. The fabric is just 50g per square meter, making it similar in weight to something like a rain cape. This is more of the all-weather jacket, although it won’t do much to keep you warm. This one only comes in “Titanium”, running from S-XXXL.

Campy Sportswear 2011 Cycling Bib ShortsCan cycling shorts make you faster? Campy says the Tech Motion bibs have a “special construction” that “ensures optimal muscle compression, which helps reduce vibrations of the legs while pedalling and decreases fatigue.” Translation: high stretch fabric that keeps pressure on your quads. But cycling clothes are about more than just going fast right? The bibs use Campy’s Tri-ProPad, their trademarked top of the line chamois which won’t make you any faster, but will sure keep you comfortable in the saddle. The fabric has a special UV protective coating, and sewn in silicon bands at the leg openings to keep them from riding up. Titanium is shown again here, and there is also a color called Argal (I don’t know what Argal looks like, but we can only assume it will look good with the rest of the line.)  Same story on sizes; S-XXXL.

Pictured above is the Tech Motion full zip jersey, a nice short sleeve piece for warm days. The heart of the jersey is its Eschler fabric. It’s bielastic (stretches even across your body), breathable, antibacterial, and looks pretty darn good. The fabric is partially made from recycled polyester, so you can feel good about wearing it. The jersey has a rear zipper pocket along with the front full zip, both of which have a reflective strip along the zipper. This jersey is part of the “Titanium” color line, and this jersey will also come in “Lake” so you can coordinate with your jacket. Sizes run from S to XXXL.

Finally, Campy rounds out the line with Tech Motion gloves. Cycling gloves tend to be like shoes; everyone has their own preference, so we won’t go too far into these. Lycra back with embossed no-slip palms, which have gel inserts for a little more comfort. These will only come in the black shown above, in sizes form XS to XXL.

Again, this is the Spring/Summer line so it will probably be a while before you see these on store shelves. We’ll be getting more info on the other lines, the Heritage Collection and Challenge Collection soon, so stay tuned for more info.

Oh, and here’s the new logo we promised.

When every other major cycling apparel company is awash in unflattering primary colors, prints of flowers, tribal swirls and cartoons – the new ultra-minimal campy line is a major aesthetic relief. At Interbike it was easy to walk right by it because it wasn’t as loud as everything else on the floor. The apparel technology can be hit/miss or sheer preference, but for the basics (jackets, long spandex) it’s a good investment. Not sure how I feel about the grey on grey men’s bibs though…

The Campy Heritage line looks awesome – so much that I’d run Campy just to wear it! But this stuff looks … horrible. Gray ???
