The nice thing about having a warehouse full of options is that you can build up just about any type of wheel on a whim.

Sun-Ringle happens to have just such an assortment lying around, and they’re the first major manufacturer we’ve seen to offer a disc-brake ready cyclocross complete wheelset. The Accelerator X2.0 Disc will use their standard Venus ‘cross rim and mate it to their Disc Jockey hubs. The set will weigh in at 1,794g and retail for a paltry $408. Because they’re using standard rims, you can go ahead and grab a set to use with your cantilevers until you’re ready to upgrade your frame, too…or use them for a budget friendly upgrade to a disc brake equipped commuter with 700c wheels.

At the moment, all the parts are in stock and they can build them to order, and they’re working on building up some inventory for shipping through their distributor or dealer direct.

For those that do a little more jumping than barricade hopping, they’ve got a new dirt jump wheelset and some lightweight, race-only BMX rims shown after the break…

Sun-Ringle’s new Punch wheels aren’t priced yet, but they will be available for order through your bike shop by the end of the year. The hold up is the artwork (look for something wild along the lines of the Manitou Circus DJ fork), and as soon as the decals are done, they’ll start shipping.  Obviously, these are pre-decal prototypes.

Hiding inside the Punch rear wheel was this trick little conversion axle.  It’s outer diameter in the center is 12mm, so it slides into 135×12 hub, but the ends step down to standard 10mm QR size. This provides several benefits. First, you can run a stiffer 135×12 hub on a frame with standard 10mm QR dropouts. In this scenario, you can either bolt it on with the included bolts and nuts, or you can remove those and use a standard quick release skewer.  Second, because it can bolt on, you can use it on sliding dropout frames (ie. singlespeed), too. It will ship with the Punch wheelset, and it’s currently available aftermarket for about $20, in stock now!

New for the small wheel crowd are the BMX Envy Lite rims. They’re a bit narrower (25mm versus 28.5 for standard Envy) and will retail for $35 in black and white. 20″ and 24″ sizes.

What is the rear hub spacing on the cross disc wheel?

Hopefully it’s 135mm. The industry has been supporting the 135mm disc “standard” on MTB’s for years. At this point, since there are fewer ‘cross disc frames than hubs on the market, it would be wise to make frames with 132.5 or 135mm spacing going forward.
