brodie-2011-rat-series-2011-cretinJust posted Brodie’s 2011 road, ‘cross and commuter bikes here, and now it’s time to get dirty. Brodie has a full line of mountain bikes for XC, marathon and dirt jump.  The only (glaring) omissions are 29ers and freeride rigs, but we’ll let it slide for now because the overall collection is pretty sharp.

Their new segment, TransCanada, is an interesting mix of bicycle comprised of the same frame but different configurations to suit various riding styles or terrains.

Above is the Cretin, part of the Rat series of urban/dirt jump bikes.  For 2011, their Hardass line becomes more “all mountain” and the Rat series becomes dedicated to the pump track/DJ/Urban riders. Frame upgrades include shorter chain stays, mid-type bb shell and integrated headset (easier bearing removal and servicing). Check past the break for the details and the rest of the line…

LIGHTNING Series – XC Hardtail “shaped, lighter and more refined”

Fury and Bandit get new shaped, lighter frames. The Tempyst ($749 msrp) now comes with hydraulic brakes and lockout fork. The Menace (13” youth bike) now is lighter and less expensive.

TRANSCANADA Series – Multi-Use Steel Hardtail “sport, utility, vehicle”

New concept series of steel bikes w/ around $1000 retail. All share the same sealed hub/wheel, stem, post, frame but configured differently, and each can easily become one or the other with a switch of few parts.

CATALYST – the classic steel mountain bike at a great price. Spec is similar to the aluminum Bandit, but with an upgrade of the wheelset.

brodie-2011-transcanada-series-2011-cohortCOHORT- commuter friendly, simple and stout, mountain bike commuter with rigid fork.

brodie-2011-transcanada-series-2011-roamROAM – expedition bike, similar to Cohort but for the multi-position bar for long hours in the saddle. The 26” wheels suit gravel roads and heavy loads better than a 700c wheel.

brodie-2011-transcanada-series-2011-drifterDRIFTER – the early ‘90’s courier bike. A fast and nimble rigid mountain bike, setup for the street. Super Moto, MTB Style.

TRYST – the single speed of the series. The wheels and frame are setup to accept gears later on, while the bars are wide and the cranks are long for reefing on the bars.

HARDASS Series – All-Mountain Hardtail “more all-mountain than freeride; lighter and refined”

Still have slacker angles, lower stand over, bigger tires, bigger brakes than Lightning Series, now with matching pedals and saddle trim colours.
