Upcoming Events On Both Coasts, MTB and Road

If you are looking for a few events coming up soon, here are a few to keep your eye on, including one good road ride in California and a Gran Fondo as well as a separate MTB race in Virginia. Click on the titles for links to the event websites.

Tour de Peninsula – August 1, San Mateo, CA

The Tour de Peninsula offers four fully-supported route options on beautiful courses, with built in shortcuts, designed to suit everyone from young children and first time riders to serious cyclists.  The rides – Kids, Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced – will take riders on popular Peninsula bike routes that visit numerous San Mateo County Parks, with breaks at rest stops and scenic sites along the way. Route options include:
* Kids/Family Route – 1-3 miles on bike trail in Coyote Point Park
* Short Route for beginner to intermediate cyclists – 20 miles
* Long Route for intermediate to experienced cyclists – 31 miles
* Metric Century for advanced cyclists – 63 miles, or take the Simon Says shortcut to make it 50 miles.

Alleghaney Gran Fondo – July 10, Covington, VA

Former pro cyclist and brain injury survivor Saul Raisin headlines the participants set to ride the innaugural Alleghany Gran Fondo cycling event in Virginia’s Alleghany Highlands region. The event will take place on Saturday, July 10, and features three route options: a Piccolo Fondo of 35 mi., a Medio Fondo of 62 mi., and a full Gran Fondo of 88 mi. All three routes feature challenging courses, fully-stocked rest stops, neutral mechanical support and a post-ride party.

18 Hours Scouts Honor – August 21-22, Maidens, VA

This endurance mountain bike race just outside of Richmond, VA gives riders of all abilities a shot at some prize money and a great time racing enduro MTB. Categories are;

  • mens solo
  • mens solo 45+
  • mens duo
  • 4 Person Men
  • single speed solo
  • womens solo
  • womens solo 45+
  • womens duo
  • 4 Person Women
  • 2 Person Mixed
  • 4 Person Mixed
  • Just for Fun (new this year)
