Brev Fixie Bicycle Fixed Gear

This fixie caught our eye as we were walking by the Masi tent at the Tour of California. We stopped to check it out, and learned that Masi is launching a new fixie parts line, branded as “Brev M.” The parts are available in a variety of colors, and are all “fixed gear specific,” designed for the rigors of fixie riding. While they are pretty standard aluminum parts, their availability in several colors should make them rather attractive to the fixed gear crowd. Check out all the parts and color options after the break.

Lots of people have trouble finding colored headset spacers, so Brev M added these 6061 aluminum spacers in blue, red, pink, green, and orange. The set comes with a 5mm, 10mm, and 20mm spacer, as well as a top cap, and the whole set weighs in at a claimed 42 grams.

The line also includes a range of handlebars. The bike on display had drop bars installed, but the company is also releasing risers and flat bars. These 311 gram drop bars are the white version, and the bars also come in blue, red, and pink. Only the 26mm clamp area is colored, and the rest of the bars are gloss black.

The track grips pictured above are also from Brev. The grips pictured are a white and black combination called “smoke,” but to be honest they just look like dirty white grips. They also come in pure white, blue, red, and black.

The Brev M saddles use a retro shape that is still plenty cushy, perfect for fixie riders who put a lot of pressure on the saddle. The saddles are covered in a synthetic white, black, or brown leather, and there are two styles of each color. The photo above is smooth and embossed, but there is also a dimpled version without the logo.

Brev Rear Fixed Gear Wheel

Brev M is a little late to the colored fixed gear wheel market, but better late than never. The display bike was equipped with standard 32 hole, 32mm aluminum rims, but Brev M is also bringing a bigger, beefier 36 hole, 40mm wheel to the market. The 32mm rims come in red, blue, and white, with corresponding hub colors, and the deeper 40mm rims come with gold, pink, or white, prebuilt with color coordinated spokes, nipples, and hubs.

Brev Colored Fixed Gear Crankset

The Brev M rep was very proud of their crankset offerings, because the bolts, rings, and arms are sold separately, so riders can fully customize their color set up. Bolts come in black, blue, green, orange, pink, red, and silver. Their 130 BCD aluminum chainrings are offered in 42, 44, 46, 48, and 50 tooth setups with a range of colors including blue, red, pink, green, orange, black, and silver. The claimed weight of a 46 tooth ring comes in at 105 grams.

The cold forged aluminum cranks come in blue, red, black, and silver, in 165mm and 170mm lengths. Obviously, they have 130 BCD arms to fit the Brev chainrings, and use a standard JIS square taper interface. Claimed weight for the 170mm version of these is a hefty 509 grams.

brev-m-pedalsWhile they didn’t make it onto the display bike, Brev M also has a line of colored pedals on their website. They come in seven colors, compatible with single or double straps, and weigh in at a claimed 353 grams.

Brev TiresMaybe the most exciting part of the bike were the new tires Brev M is bringing to the fixed gear market. While they are not yet available, Brev M is calling them their ” Slittata” tires (Italian for “skid,”)  and says they will initially come in white, black, and red. The massive 700 x 28 tires are definitely designed for fixed gears, with an incredibly thick, almost bullet proof casing; perfect for skids and jumps. They won’t be the fastest tires on the market, but they might be the most durable.

Most parts are available now from Masi/Brev M dealers. The company is not selling directly to the public, but it should only be a matter of time before the online fixed gear shops pick up the line. See the full specs at their website here.
