SEA OTTER CLASSIC 2010 – I have a soft spot in my heart for any person willing to put their time, money and heart into something they believe in, but when I saw the Never Reach bottle on a mountain bike I had to wonder if they’d done any market research.

Then I saw the second bike (below) and breathed a small sigh of relief. The triathletes I know are sticklers for maintaining an absolutely unwavering cadence and pace in their group rides, to the point where roadies don’t want to ride with them. So, theoretically, anything that keeps them tucked and aero should merit consideration. Other than the placement behind the seat, this isn’t all that different than the aero bottles that snuggle between their aero bars with a giant straw sticking out. OK triathletes, whadya think?

“You’ll shoot your eye out!”

but really.. I don’t know about the Tri guys.. but they should deff give up on the mtb version. Maaaybe some sort of attachment that keeps the nozzle from a hydration pack close enough to the mouth so people don’t have to use their hand to bring it to their mouth… but doubtful. I wouldn’t waste my $ on it either way.

As for the tri version. I don’t know, but aren’t they weight weenies too? I don’t know if they would want all that extra weight from the extra tubing.

“I have a soft spot in my heart for any person willing to put their time, money and heart into something they believe in”…yeah, I hate to criticize somebody who went through the trouble too, but I’m uncertain this solves a problem that hasn’t already been solved half a dozen other ways (as far as using it on a MTB). Of course, there was a day I didn’t think the Internet would amount to anything either.

The reason roadies don’t want to ride with tri-geeks is not due to their “unwavering pace and cadence” it has more to do with the fact that most have never taken any time to understand the basic etiquette of road riding especially in a group setting. Coupled with their undying will to maintain aero regardless that they’re no where near their brake levers makes riding with them a disater waiting to happen.

And I’m not even talking about the Ironman Triathletes.

How do you tell an ironman triathlete is in the room?: They’ll let you know. 🙂

Ha…Pedaltime beat me to it…besides, many (most?) triathletes can’t handle a bike for sh!t, even out of their aero tuck.
