SEA OTTER CLASSIC 2010 – Rockshox introduced a simple little gadget that aims to solve the problems of hardcore dirt jumpers everywhere.

The Turncoat is a steerer tube assembly that replaces the top-cap and star nut typically used, which many DJ’ers hacked or cut anyway to make room for the hydraulic front brake line to feed through.  The Turncoat uses shaped channels to keep the hose in place and guide it properly into the steerer tube, and the top and bottom caps thread into a central tube to clamp down the headset, eliminating the need for the star nut.  Rockshox athletes say it actually keeps things tighter, too.  Pricing is a measly $15 to $20 and it ships in June.

Because the line comes out of the bottom, Rockshox says use of the Turncoat will void fork compliance with CEN safety standards.  Because we know you care about such things, we caution you to ensure that the brake line is properly routed away from where your tire might hit it should you land hard and bottom out your fork.  They said to make sure you have at least 6mm of tire clearance at full compression, otherwise you could hurt yourself and your equipment.
