Carlton Reid has posted a very solid technical article with information from James Lamont, the man behind adidas’ Ian Thorpe swimsuit, TPU bands for cross country skiing and other “performance enhancing” clothing innovations. (The video above is a spoof of UCI’s technological advancement stigma from Pearl Izumi)

They discuss things like polyurethane energy bands, dimples, seam placement and whether all of this even matters compared to potential improvements in cooling.  Lamont suggests there is room for huge improvement in fabric construction, weave and placement that would lead to better heat dissipation.  It even takes into consideration the color of jerseys when dry versus when wet with sweat and how they change their solar load.  Fascinating stuff, and you can read it all on Reid’s QuickRelease.tv site.
