2010-specialized-shoe-swrks

Specialized’s 2010 Mountain Bike gear lineup matches their road range in breadth, offering shoes, gloves, helmets, sunglasses, wheels and more.  We’ve got the full range, starting with their S-Works Mountain Bikes shoes above.

Versus the 2009 model, these shoes have fewer mesh side vents, but it adds vents over the toes.  They have a BOA lacing system on the top and a single velcro strap on the bottom.  The upper is their Engineered Micromatrix, the footbed uses their Body Geometry insoles, the treads are fully replaceable (a new feature for Specialized) via internal bolts, which are mounted to a FACT full carbon TorsionBox outsole, and they use a standard MTB 2-bolt cleat pattern.  Like the 2009 model, they have a Powerzone lacing option which lets you run an additional loop over the top of the foot to more firmly secure your heel in the cup of the shoe, and they have the pull tab to make loosening the shoes quick and easy. They’re available in black and white.  Claimed weight is 305g / shoe (size 42).

2010-specialized-shoe-sole22010-specialized-swmtThe 2010 Specialized S-Works mountain bike helmet claims to be the lightest CPSC-certified helmet in the world.  It’s essentially the same as their road S-Works helmet, but with a visor, visor attachment and different graphics.  Like the 2010 road helmet, it uses a Kevlar fiber inner reinforcement to support the dual density EPS frame, which is what allows the helmet to have such a light, open appearance and numerous large air holes.  It’s designed to work with their sunglasses to vent air effectively through the helmet for maximum cooling.  The strap is DryLite webbing, which are lightweight and hydrophobic.

2010-specialized-viceThe 2010 Vice is Specialized’s All Mountain helmet.  It offers more coverage, lots of air vents and their new Headset SL retention system, which uses a dial for easy, equal adjustments and secure fit.  The rear of the helmet extends further down the back of your head to offer more protection, and the visor is bolted to the helmet.  The in-molded shell completely surrounds the EPS foam to create a stronger package.

The Headset is Specialized’s new retention system and comes in two iterations.  The “SL” (left) has a 4-position height adjustment for higher end helmets and is found on the Vice, Tactic and Echelon.  The “SX” (right) is for one-size-fits-all helmets like the Align, Sierra, Flash, Max and Contour.

The Phenom SL is their minimalist performance saddle for both road and MTB.  Used by Marathon World Champion Christoph Sauser, it has scuff guards on the side (recessed to prevent snagging) and a slightly downward angled perch to aid in seated climbing.  It uses the BG design to keep blood flowin’ to the important parts, has a carbon-reinforced shell, hollow Ti rails and medium padding.  The cover is their Micromatrix material, which they claim is “tough, light and water resistant.”  270mm length and available in 130, 143 and 155mm widths.  It comes in white/gray (above), white/red, black and brown.

2010-specialized-hengeslThe Henge SL is their performance XC / Trail saddle and shares the 270mm length and three width options with the Phenom.  It has all the same features as the Phenom, actually, with a more rounded rear end for getting behind the saddle when necessary and a slightly “fluffier” build.  Also available in white.

Not shown are the Ariel SL women’s saddle that has ultralight padding that extends beyond the tail of the saddle and is 280mm long.  Hollow Ti rails, Micromatrix cover, etc.

The Roulette features their Adaptalite lens that changes darkness to accommodate different light conditions and is their first non-hinged model designed specifically for women.  This model is intended for road use with a light transmission range of 39% to 12%.

2010-specialized-arcterra2010-specialized-arcterra2

The Arcterra is a mountain bike specific, hingeless design that’s available with their Adaptalite photochromic lenses with a range of 78% to 22% light transmission.  It’s a lightweight stainless steel frame with a bridge that helps move sweat away from your eyes. It’s available in two sizes.

All of Specialized’s lenses are made of their shatterproof NXT material, which they claim is lighter and more shatter resistant than polycarbonate lenses from other manufacturers.  All models include a hard case and cleaning cloth.

The Arc X is a new-for-2010 hinged model that’s suitable for both road and mountain biking.  Lens options include Adaptalite photochromic ranges for both road and mountain bike conditions, and it uses a lightweight stainless steel frame like the others.
