2009 Offroad Assault on Mt. Mitchell

The 10th annual Offroad Assault on Mt. Mitchell will be held July 26, 2009. The ride is a 63 mile mostly offroad route and has 11,000 ft of climbing! The course is extremely demanding and travels over rugged terrain with extreme elevation changes. Fortunately there are fully stocked rest areas every 10 miles and the NC Army National Guard supplying water and medical assistance. Not that you’ll necessarily need the medical assistance.

Mt. Mitchell, in Western North Carolina, peaks at 6684 ft and is the highest mountain east of the Mississippi river. A course record was set last year at just under 5 hours by Sam Koerber. This year there is a $500 prize to the rider that sets a new record. There are also cash prizes for winners in every category and Specialized and Industry Nine have donated prizes.
