A commemorative bicycle honoring a cyclist killed in a still-unsolved November hit-and-run collision was found in a nearby dump after missing for three weeks, and family and the local cycling community will rededicate it this Saturday.
Mark Pendleton, 49, a city resident and father of two, died the evening of Nov. 24 while on a routine ride on McEwen Road, about a half-mile north of Highway 4. Investigators said a vehicle resembling a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, or possibly a GMC Yukon or Suburban, crossed into his lane.
Denise Pendleton said relatives, friends and the East Bay Bicycle Coalition will rededicate the bicycle at a 1 p.m. ceremony. A Web site has also been set up soliciting information about the death:  www.findmarkskiller.com. The city of Martinez, the Pendleton family, Pendleton’s former union and a Bay Area cycling club have all contributed to a $25,000 reward for information in the case.
