Bryton continues to surprise by offering some of the most feature-rich cycling computers out there, at really affordable prices. Sure they don’t offer base mapping or color displays, and their menus might be a tiny bit less intuitive, but they put out some lightweight GPS computers with excellent battery life and connectivity that few can beat even at twice the price. The news that Bryton has partnered with Shimano to offer Di2 support is just the latest hint that the Taiwanese company is doing something right. And best of all the new connectivity is via firmware update, so if you already have one of their newest top-level computers, you just got an upgrade. Check the details out…

The new Bryton update established compatibility between the new Rider 330 & 530 with Shimano Di2  E-tube road groups: Dura-Ace 9070, Ultegra 6870 Di2, and Ultegra 6770 (maybe new XT & XTR Di2, as well). It allows users to view real-time gearing, ratios & combinations, plus Di2 battery level. All the same riding data is still there like distance, speed, heartrate, cadence, power, etc.. just with a few more options for data fields. Bryton Sport’s president & founder Samuel Wang says he’s thrilled with the update, as their goal is to make “truly unrivaled products at unmatched prices that riders and racers can actually afford”, something not many companies can match them on.

The $130 Rider 330 & $180 Rider 530 with keep Di2 riders abreast of what gear they’re in, but maybe more importantly for those relying on power to shift is the current battery life indicator. Of course to make the connectivity work, your Di2 setup will need the Shimano D-Fly wireless ANT+ transmitter if you don’t already have one on the bike, which will likely set you back about $80 from Shimano.

The same firmware update also brings some more functional improvements, including faster Bluetooth data transfer speeds. Bryton says that faster data transfer update will be even more useful in a few months for another firmware update that is still in the works that will log your Di2 data for more post ride analysis. That future update will also add the use of those hidden buttons under the Di2 lever hoods to remotely flip through Bryton data pages.

To update your Rider, either connect through the Data Sync setup over wifi on the device, or use Bryton’s website Update Tool with the device plugged into a PC.

Just what the DI2 market was looking for, a price-point anything. 🙂
