After being acquired by rival suspension manufacturer Fox, the future of Marzocchi was in question. While their reps weren’t really able to answer the question of why they were brought into the fold, they were able to reassure us that the Marzocchi brand would carry on with its own unique take on mountain bike suspension. We took that to mean they’ll keep their look and internal technology, so don’t expect Kashima coats and FIT4 damping cartridges to pop up in the Italian brand’s catalog anytime soon. You’ll probably see some sharing of technologies where it makes sense for production efficiencies, like possibly with that Marzocchi Transfer post shown above (which may simply replace the Espresso dropper post they showed in 2015).

Fortunately, features like their Air Adjust should stay. It’s a brilliantly simple design that lets you adjust air volume by turning an external knob (as opposed to adding or removing spacers inside the air chamber). This not only gives you much finer control over the adjustment, but it also lets you see the effects of different air volumes in real time…or even adjust them based on terrain without tools.

One change they are contemplating is switching the rebound knobs to red and compression knobs to blue, to match industry norms. Personally, we think they should stick with their own color scheme, not only because it looks better, but also to differentiate themselves. One justification was to make it easier for riders to know which knob does what, but honestly, if you need color coding to know what you’re doing…

Did not look like it. Still waiting for something stiffer than a Bluto and cheaper than a Wren, lefty etc.

“Air Adjust: […] adjust air volume by turning an external knob.” Are you sure? I have a 350 NCR and I’m pretty sure it does not have a volume adjust knob. Air chamber volume is adjusted by changing the oil volume in the chamber, as opposed to adding spacers. Coil forks have air preload in the the spring leg, and it seems the top cap is shared for both air and coil forks. But there is no knob you can turn to adjust air volume – unless there’s something I don’t know.

Also, interesting that they’ve ditched the Espresso coating. Every fork I’ve seen with Espresso coating has had the coating wearing off. Hopefully the black anodize will last.

my recent interbike pestering of the suspension suppliers about FAT fork future was met with no way. The market for an enduro class FAT fork is as big as your toe nail, and their collective thought is that if you want big traction AND suspension, get a Plus bike, 3″ tires are plenty if you have plenty of travel and there are plenty of big travel plus bikes to choose from. In all my poking around it seems if you want a big travel fat fork Wren is it. I think there really is only 1 fat suspension frame in the US in the Foes Mutz, which is a bad ass bike but hardly enough made for fork makers to even notice.

This is what I don’t get…If the market is so small why is Rock Shox even making the Bluto? If it’s a money loser I’m sure they’d stop making it, yet it’s still here.

Thank goodness someone finally covered that booth. I saw a photo on Marzocchi’s Instagram, but when no media outlets mentioned it, I wondered if there was an embargo on something exciting… I’m not really disappointed; at least now I know for sure. I loved the espresso and will miss it, but the forks still manage to look distinctive without them. I find the smooth shaping of Marzocchi’s lowers far preferable to those of their new owner.
